What kind of training is the most beneficial in an amazon's life? Tommy has been with us for a little while now. He doesn't like to be touched. He will step up if we corner him on the top of his cage or if he's down on the floor. I remember reading somewhere that there was some kind of training that is helpful when they get to their hormonal times. Tommy is somewhere between 3-5 years old, according to the vet. What training would you start with?

"clicker training" is what i think your looking for. The best training is socialization,socialization, socialization. Expanding your zons horizons and accepting more people ,situations and experiencing different things is what makes them happy . it's so sad to see them alone in a cage.

I think any training can help. In my experience, pretty much all animals seem to enjoy training, so it's a fun way to bond and it might help with hormonal times, but I'm not sure. I agree that clicker training is probably what you're looking for. Good luck!

He likes to come out of his cage and hang out on the playtop or sit on the door and watch tv with us. We talk to him a lot and he seems to like that. He has started climbing down the cage to get on the floor with us now. We've been giving him his space while he's transitioning. We have him in the living room so he's with us all of the time.
