Married man, new apartment and life.

So as I have mentioned in a previous post. I went out and got the birds a mommy. We moved into an apartment down the street from my house on Grove Street in Bangor.

I am actually impressed about how smooth they adapted to my wife. The first day of her arrival they both demanded to go on her shoulders (probably initiation.)

The birds have been extra loud and more clingy since my trip, which makes sense and seem to have adapted to the new apartment. We are on the top floor, which is actually pretty sweet. I bought an air purifier because the apartment smells (mostly my room and bathroom, but just incase) like cigarettes.

I was referred to see Dr.Feher in Brewer - does anyone know about his qualifications and/or his prices? A general check up, blood work (if needed), nails, beak, etc?

I want to bring them to get a check up because I haven't yet since I have adopted them (October) I figured it would be nice now.

These birds have been wonderful since day 1. How these 'aggressive birds' bonded to me and haven't 'turned' on me yet. Even when they are temperamental or wanting to mate with me (Adrian) they have been pretty tolerable.

Any tips on how to get them to eat things other then sunflower seeds and other seeds? I have been trying since day 1 but to no avail.

We see Dr. Feher. It's like 25.00 for the works! Beak, nails, wings... I've never done blood work there, but if you find out please tell me! How did leaving them go? Were they excited to see you?

It went well. They have been pretty quiet while I was away and when they saw me, you could tell their little hearts dropped. I think I was worst then them haha. My poor sitters got so annoyed with me texting all the time. I had to find new ways of asking nonchalantly. I will bring them this Saturday! I am excited, that's pretty good! I will ask for blood work.

Congrats on your birds! They are very beautiful. I can't believe its just 25 bucks for everything (besides bloodwork and special visits). It's 80ish for my cockatiel to get her yearly check up. Its worth the money though. Dr. Kitty Remington is very good at what she does. I have her personal cell number for emergencies. Good luck with your 'zons!

So I went to the vet to see Dr.Feher.

We had a general check up. He was a bit rude and not that friendly. My birds are attached to me and he told me if I wanted them to be nice to separate them (they are nice to me?) and I was like yeah I am not doing that because they are bonded together as well... and have separation anxiety.

He checked their weight visually and not with a scale. He said they were extremely healthy looking birds.
I was left with an empty feeling.

The bill ended up being 144.87.

Those are cheap prices where I live. However, I'd find a new avian vet.

As for the seeds, have you tried mixing the seeds with pellets? Start out by feeding more seeds to pellets, the slowly ween them to more pellets to seeds.

As for the vet price, that's a very good deal. My initial vet visit was $60, the whole bill came out to $313 because I got the whole shabang, blood work, proteins, dna sexing, nail trimming, etc. So yea $100 plus is nothing.

Sorry things didn't go well at the vet. Paco just loves that guy! Maybe an off day for him as I have always had good experiences there.I also read that there is a woman vet in Waterville that is listed in the avian association. I haven't checked her out yet because that would be almost 4 hours for me to get there. If you look up avian vets in maine you can find her.

I pay $120 to walk through the door of my avian vet. :54: Tests, especially lab tests run over $100 a piece. So IMO your vet was super cheap.

Try east side vet, Clermont, nail trim 5 bucks

My bi-yearly checkup for two birds <either it was Amy and Smokes,or Amy and Jonesy> was $60.. That included clipping both arms and nails,a beak scrape <usually for Smokey>,sitting on the scale,and a general "feel me up" exam.

Amy had one "emergency" visit,where Smokes had bitten Amys' tongue,and it required five stitches...had to knock her out,and use a pigeon for "donor blood", that was a long time ago and about $260..then the time I had to rush Smokes in...and they did $450 of life-saving stuff...:31::31:
