...and it looks like I've been living with a transgender for 26 years lol..Amy is truly an Amos :52: .. Now do I refer to her as a "shim"? <she-him> lol??
I was surprised but its ok..She will still be called AMY and Arleen and I are going to love HIM no matter what!

Amy?...Amos?..Amy?..Amos... :54: :p...its all good just as long as she/he is happy and healthy.

Oh Jim, I LOVE your sense of humor about this. :D

Should I say 'congratulations' to Amy? :D She's kept that a well hidden secret. I mean 'he'. :32:

Doesn't matter though. SAME awesome Amy/Amos!

Gloria, BFA, adopted on Jan. 9, 2016 when she was 30 years old
. Her mom went to a nursing home.
Also have 2 cats (Rangerand Luna) and a 24 year old aquatic turtle, named Elvis.
Will you still call her Amy? I would if it were me! Makes me think of that old song, " A Boy Named Sue!"

Wow! What a shock after so many years assuming Amy was a female! That must feel a bit strange. Good to know though :). I'm sure you'll catch yourself thinking "oh yeah almost forgot, she's a boy!" Now do some of his behaviors make more sense?

He can stay "Amy", after all, there are lots of birds with opposite gender names out there ;). Hey, I named my males Robin and Raven on purpose even knowing they were male, but people still assume they're girls because of the names lol.

And, tomorrow s/he will still love you dearly and you her/him!

Your Amy has always known and never minded one bit and neither should you. The only difference is some additional medical knowledge.

Amazon's Rule!

Amy will still be Amy…Maybe slowly go from Amy to Aim. Honestly I would just stick with Amy.

Hi Gang..;)

Well finding out Amy is a boy was...interesting..lol. For YEARS it had stuck in the back of my mind that he was indeed a he,just by some of her/his mannerisums, plus never laying an egg.

When the doc office called yesterday and the girl told me she has the results..I told her WAIT A MINUTE! LET ME CATCH MY BREATH! OK YOU CAN TELL ME NOW! She laughed and said "well Amy is a BOY! Congradulations! Like I said,it has been in my mind for years that she was a he.

I don't care really. Like someone else mentioned in an earlier post,it will be beneficial for her..I mean HIS lol, medical records. And in any further posts, I will continue to refer to her as a "she" and will definitely still call her Amy :green: My Mom,God rest her soul, would smack me if I didn't!

Thanks to all who showed interest in this. All is great here in birdie land..I think I'll let her out and give her a couple nummys and loveys!

Like someone said earlier.. AMAZONS RULE!!! :green: :green1: :greenyellow: :D :D

Nike a Hawk Head Parrot (Deroptyus accipitrinus)
My last parrot of 40 years was undoubedtly a male but when I got her I started calling her a "her". After she passed and I picked up Nike I was told that the owner thought she was a female but honestly I think she's a male. I have no intension of calling her anything but a female as it just seems to flow more natural for me. I do call her by my previous birds name more than ocasionally and for a brief time thought about renaming her.

There is a French male name "Aime" - in French it phonetically sounds like "aim-eh", but when pronounced by English people, it always comes out "Ay-mee" or, well, Amy.

A French Amazon parrot! What a lucky find!
