How old does this Amazon look

Hi, I'm new to this site. I bought an Amazon parrot 4 years ago. He was supposedly 11 months old when I bought him but I'm not sure. He's my first Amazon so I was wondering whether someone could help me figure this out.

most of these photos were taken between two years ago and now. The last photo (worst quality) is right when I got him. Does he look like a juvenile there?

hard to tell age..Look at my avatar picture of Amy. That was taken almost over ten years ago. She is 27 now. Does she look like she is 17?

Now look at the pics below..those were taken in april this year at her docs...does she look like she is 26 yrs old??

I have no clue.

Amy looks wonderful.

I definitely don't know how to tell a bird's age by looking at it, which is why I'm hoping someone else could help me out. I'd just like to be sure of his age and I'm not very experienced with amazons.

This sounds like one of my Retired Math Teacher wife's Story Problems that she would wright for the first day back to school. So, based on her tools for developing a 'Story Problem' that would put your Amazon between 4.567 and 5.678 years old.

Once an Amazon is in their full Adult Feathering, age is more commonly defined as: older baby Amazon, young Amazon, middle age Amazon and Senior Amazon. I never use old Amazon for the same reason that I dislike being referred as an old Man.

Sorry but at this point, providing an age for your Amazon is a pure guess. So, if you feel comfortable with the individual that sold you your Amazon. All you can do is to use that as the base and push the years forward from there.

Thank you for the advice! Yes, I'm realizing now that I probably won't get a very precise answer. I though it was like estimating a cat or dog's age. I find this a little frustrating. I found my Amazon on the Internet. I know nothing about the individual who sold him to me. All he said was that he was roughly 11 months old and showed me his parents. I remember his parents looked exactly like him.
He was in a large cage (the size of a room) all alone and was flying and screaming like crazy. There were lots of other birds in similarly large 'rooms' but they were a lot more quiet. The guy then told me it would be really easy to tame him...

Is there perhaps a way of telling judging age by how active he is? My parrot is very active, but I assume most are..

Sadly, how active an Amazon is has very little connection to their age and more to their health, diet, and level of enrichment (toys, being interacted with, etc...). And, most importantly, whether the Amazon is Ill or Not.

Please take the time to read the first Thread, highlighted in light blue regarding Amazon Body Language as part of the Amazon Forum. This will add to your understanding and working with your Amazon.

Owning an Amazon during the first five years of its life imply that both of you have made it though its transition from Baby like to Adulthood, which involves the on set of hormonal chemical changes. Not that unlike Human children during those wonder teenage years.

Both Amy and the OPs bird look like prime examples of Blue front Amazons. See how well developed the shoulder feathering is? Adult BFA have this flash of fire.

I don't have a BFA but I bought my YNA when he was young.
When I first bought him he had NO yellow on his neck, took about a year before it showed up.
Based on this and the fact that your first picture of your bird has NO blue on the front of his head but it developed later on. I would say you got a young bird.

Congratulations I think you and your bird have many happy years to look forward to.

I would have to say in the second picture he definitely has a bit of a juvenile look to him still, so 11 months might have been fairly accurate. I don't know if there is any way they can really "tell" age, but it's not really evident based on appearance. Sometimes you can make an educated guess based on the feet and level of callouses and such, but that's also not accurate and highly variable.

Here's a few pictures of Sydney (Amy's long lost brother!) who is between 35-45 years old, wild caught. I don't think he looks his age at all!

And then Ezio and Lola from about a year ago when I first adopted them, who are about 20 years old right now.

Sidney is awesome! I have no clue on his age,and he does kinda look like Amys long lost bro lol.

Last night I found the email address of the wife of the man who sold him to me. She sent me two photos of him (at the time before I bought him). I'd like to show you guys, but I don't know how to attach them.
