Hi

About 3 months ago my senegal started sticking his tongue out his beak. We all thought it was very funny... but now he does it a lot of the time with a funny squeeky noise.. i was wondering could this mean that his tongue is maybe itchy or is there something wrong...

Thanks

I think you need to take hin to an avian vet. It sounds like he could have something stuck in throat and it is really irritating it. If it stays to long an infection can start.

Something is definitely wrong, you need to take him to the vet soon. He sounds like he is struggling with something in his throat or having breathing problems. This problm could cost him his life if not addressed soon enough.

Please do let us know how it goes, you'll be in my thoughts.

I totally agree with Greycloud, take him to an avian vet, rather sooner that later.
It could be something small, if more serious, he will be in the right place, and taken care of immediately.
Praying it's nothing serious.
Please let us know the outcome.

Always better to be safe than sorry, but my first thought upon reading this was that he just learned it was fun and he gets lots of attention for it.

I reminded of training dogs - I'd always have one student ask "Why does my dog jump up on me all the time, every time he does I push him down and tell him no" to which my only response is "That's exactly why he does it."

It may very well be that he did this once for some odd reason, and as you said everyone thought it was funny and undoubtedly gave him lots of attention.

Again better safe than sorry, never assume something is behavioral if it could be medical - rule out the medical issues first. But don't be surprised if he gets a clean bill of health - be relieved, not surprised.

Great news that's it not a health item!

My male Eclectus has learned to stick out his tongue on command. Sometimes he'll inititiate the game, other times will respond on cue - about 80% of the time!
