So I woke up this morning and started my morning routine, chopping my birdies fruit mix for the day getting some fresh water for their play stand. When I go to get them from their cage I find that my beautiful Zazu a fiesty little pineapple who was 1 yr 7months old was lying on the bottom of the cage. He was fine yesterday when I checked in on him yesterday right before bed. I feel so bad because they didn't get any time outside their cage yesterday as I had a 15hr work day and didnt get home till very late last night. I couldnt find any sign of poor stool in their cage or anything abnormal. He's just gone. There are no vets avian vets near us here where we live and the only one that sees birds is booked months in advance. I just cant think of what could have caused this.

Zazu would come down from his favorite spot on the curtain rod to drink water from my cup every day and would stand on my desk in front of a small table fan and enjoy the breeze now he wont be around to do that anymore.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I am so very sorry for your loss of Zazu. He must have been a real sweetheart.

Even if the closest av vet clinic is booked for weeks, if you explain the circumstances of Zazu's death to them and tell them you are concerned for your other birds, they could possibly do a necropsy to give you answers and protect the rest of your flock. Just a friendly suggestion. I know it must be hard not knowing. Please try not to beat yourself up, we all have to work and some days are harder than others. It's the heartbreaking stories like this one that remind us how fragile our feathered babies are. Sometimes these terrible things happen even when we do everything right.

When you feel up to it, we would like to hear about the rest of your flock members and maybe see photos.

Hugs to you and your flock,
~Allee

He might have had a 'cardiac event' and did not recover. Really no way to know without a necropsy and you still may not know. When I lose a pet I like to plant a flower that somehow represents the its life. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear about your loss. There are no words to describe the grief associated with the sudden loss of a pet. I hope you find support and peace.

I'm very sorry for your loss :( it's so terribly heartbreaking as it is, then like Stephen (Anansi) said, the added shock that it was unexpected.

I'm wondering if it might have been acute poisoning from perhaps chewing, or ingesting a small bit of something on your desk? Just guessing since you said he liked to be there with you. Even if you are a person who watches the bird closely, you'd be surprised that it can still happen. Just simply a guess. No matter what the cause I know that only time, and perhaps a lot of time will be what heals the wound. Hang in there I know how the loss of a special pet feels.
