"Swee dee" has been in my home about three weeks now. I made some mistakes when he first arrived and set back his training a couple weeks. He actually got on my finger the second day but then escaped the cage. I had to catch him with a towel. Bad idea.

I didn't let him out for a week or so until he stepped up onto a perch consistently. He picked that up pretty quickly. He also got used to accepting millet from my fingers. I could also transfer him to my shoulder and he'd sit there.

The last couple days he's decided to step on my finger. Woohoo! He (or she) is also learning to return to the cage on command. I think he taught himself that, all I had to do was associate a command with it.

I'm pretty happy with the rate of training. I can't understand how some people claim to get this kind of progress in days or hours. They must be much better bird trainers than I am.

Great to hear! Most Budgies tame pretty quickly when you work with them consistently. I have a male who would rather be in the company of birds and not handled by humans, but he's smart and knows verbal commands.

I think the green ones are the prettiest. The blue/white/yellow budgies are nice but look like artificial birds to me. I'm partial to the greenies. He/she still won't step up on my finger but I can use a perch and carry her around the house. And she's getting good at target training. He can fly all around the house now and find his way back to the cage. (when the cats are locked up)

1 on its way. Its a baby. Dont know yet if boy or girl.
I love my budgies but i think i got too many too fast. Started with one and immediately felt sad for her cuz she was alone and within a week got another. Then cpl weeks later adopted 3 from someone else and so on till ended up w 9 lol. Jupiter died on monday and was hard on us. I wish i would have been more patient to not get another until i trained what i had. Now i dint even know where to begin w 8 in a cage. Would love to hand tame them. They kinda trust me when i put millet in and will sit on my hand but any other time i open cage and put hand in they run :(

Im glad ur progress is going good :) she looks like my Venus, same coloring.
