Hello :)

So I have a male budgie that is 10 months old, and I recently got another. The other budgie is a female budgie that is 5 months old. I’ve put them in seperate cages since I wan’t to tame her. Nacho (my male budgie) is already pretty tame, but I’m still working on it.

I put their cages right next to each other and they seemed to be fine. They tried to be as close to each other as they could. However, the female budgie went crazy. She tries so hard to break out of her cage (in order to get to Nacho) and I’m afraid she’s gonna hurt herself. Nacho seems to be chill and just stands there watching her. She got so crazy that I had to put a board between their cages, but she still wouldn’t stop. I tried to introduce them by putting Nacho on top of her cage, and it did not go well. She tried to bite his toes and beak (like she was striking at him). I took Nacho off her cage and he bit me (he doesn’t bite hard) and I put him back into his cage.

I’ve seperated them even farther away by taking her to another room. They can still hear each other and usually scream. I don’t know why they’re acting like this. My female budgie is quite stressed out since I just brought her home. I’m giving her time to adjust to her new environment. Could anyone help me please?

I don't believe they should be in the same room until a month or so after bringing the newer one home.

I let all my budgies live in the same cage.

From what you've said, it sounds like you are doing the right thing by giving your female budgie time to adjust to her new environment. If she is a young bird and came from an aviary it may take a bit longer. All birds are individuals, it's impossible to predict how two birds will react to each other, even birds of the same species.

Thank you for your answers :)

They get along a lot better now, but Nacho is still pretty dominant whenever they’re together. He tries to bite her when they’re eating from the same bowl, and if she gets too close. I’m trying to intoduce them slowly to each other and it’s actually working. Hopefully it’ll work :)
