No clue. I swear the cere changes color with different lighting. I’m sure the orange wall isn’t helping. The one we picked out definitely looked like a male but we *could* have gotten the female accidentally because the plumage was almost exactly the same, or it could be lighting. Time will tell I suppose.

Here is a close up. This is with the flash on. The other pic was without the flash.

In the first picture I was thinking the bird is a female, but in the second picture the cere still looks pinkish/bluish. Could be a young male where the cere has not turned the darker blue yet. No matter, very pretty and should make a lovely pet.

I’m just happy I’m not the only one that’s not quite sure on the gender. Either way the little bugger will be well loved. Hopefully once he or she gets a bit bigger we’ll have the answer. Long term the plan is for both birds to keep each other company, but if this one is a female I might have to rethink that outcome. I do NOT want babies.

If this bird does turn out to be a female and you don't want babies you may have to keep them in separate cages near each other. I've seen videos where people housed their birds in separate cages.

AGREED. Very likely that you could have fertile eggs with 2 parakeets of opposite gender.
