Hello all,
I had aquired one budgie around 2 months ago. He recently (past 2 weeks or so) started to come outta the cage, sit on my ahoulder, play around with me and family, basically feel comfortable and started to have fun. I recently around 20 minutes ago got a friend for him. He was excited and started to interact with his new friend right away.

Just wanted to know, will my first budige (the sorta 70% tamed one) still want to come out and play and come outta his cage and stuff. Because we tried to take him out today but he was determined to stay inside. Usually he screams to let him out.

Is this because of his new friend and wants to socialize. (My parents said thag he wont come and play with us anymore. I didnt believe them, but a seed of doubt planted in my mind. Or is it because now he doesnt need my company/companionship?:greenyellow:

Thats one of the risks getting a second parrot. They can bond with each other, to the exclusion of you..

You will need to work on taming the second one, and you may need to work on re-taming the first one.

I got two at almost the same time. They are definitely besties with each other first, I am sort of their third-wheel. That said, I am convinced that if I had continued working with them them would now be handle-able and friendly.

Your bugies are definitely NOT going to want to stay in their cage forever. They will want to come out. You may want to review some youtube videos on "how to tame your budgie." Your goal now is for them to see you as (1) non-threatening - (2) Part of Their Flock - and then, (3) somewhere they want to be.

This is all definitely do-able. Many many folks here have multiple birds with whom we have great relationships. It just may take patience on your part and possibly new approaches.

You are in for some good benefits too. One great benefit will be watching your budgies interact. You will really get to understand their personalities just by watching them interact with each other. It always amazes me just how Much personality they can have bundled up in such tiny little fluffballs.

Your first budgie is probably not coming out because he is being Supportive to the new budgie. They are such emotional, empathetic creatures. Second Budgie will take a little while to adjust to its new surroundings, so First Budgie is probably both thrilled to have a new friend, and also wants to emotionally-support new friend during adjustment time. At THIS point, First Budgie indeed does not care about you at all. However, don't worry, this will change.

At this point, you want to do the very first steps such as: sit near the cage - as close as possible before one of them seems scared - read to them, etc. Let them learn / relearn that you are non-threatening.

I predict you will eventually have two wonderful pet budgies. You will love seeing their relationships with each other AND you will yourself have great relationships with each also. (Just remember - you are number three in the flock heierarchy!) :)
