Yellow Sided GCC Oliver (October 2009), and a Cinnamon GCC Mia (August 2013)
I bought a double level critter nation recently to prepare for my moving to San Antonio for school after the summer. I'm really loving it! I keep one green cheek in each level. Mia doesn't seem to even mind being on the bottom. It's easier to clean, especially compared to the awful corner cage I bought, I should have listened to you guys on that one!!!! It had tiny cage doors and the pan didn't fit correctly into the cage (haha does anyone in Austin wanna buy it from me? It's pretty at least :p). The new one has full doors like all the way across! And surprisingly I'm not having any more issues than normal about Oliver trying to fly out when I change food, if anything he does it less than with smaller doors. Idk why...

It has horizontal bars all across everywhere though so the safety pumice perches I have will no longer work :( I've put them in the travel/outdoor cages though so I can use them for something.

Anyone have recommendations? I also remember hearing a certain type of nail file perch was dangerous for their feet, which ones should I absolutely avoid?

Here's some pictures of the new cage + the new travel/outdoor cages (they're YML small animal cages, cheapest I could find in dimensions I was happy with/proper bar spacing).

I've been working on a big painting commission and with how chaotic my house can be it's easier to concentrate outside, and now I can bring the birds with me for some vitamin D :)

I love that cage! It's pretty unique and a different sort of look for a bird cage, but as you said it's not 'made' for birds. I like how the bottom cage door is the entire front panel.

Yeah, corner cages look nice, but I could just imagine they're not ideal. I used to do that with fish tanks when I was into the hobby some years ago, the ones that weren't rectangle I'd run into more problems with.

I'm not sure how the pumice perches attach, but how about bolt on perches? You can buy all shapes and sizes of natural branches that have a bolt on type end. They say to stay away from the sandpaper perches, or at the very least, don't have all the perches that type. I guess it can be a bit too abrasive for some birds feet (I can see it could be true especially with small birds). Raven has one manzanita perch that is somehow coated with blue sand. He uses it regularly and his feet are fine. However, it does nothing in the way of filing down his nails like it's supposed to. Good luck! I'm sure you'll get some good suggestions and make it work.

Edit: I thought the painting was nice too.

That is a very cool set up!!! I love the little cages for outside time too =D I have used both pumice perches and calcium perches with no issues but have heard its the sand perches that should be avoided.

I love cages that open up PROPERLY, having teeny tiny little doors frustrate me to no end XD

Regarding perches - Any perch that is rough on the sides but not the top are good. I'm not sure what type of pumice perch you currently have, but is there any way you could swivel the attachment 45' so you can attach it to horizontal bars?

Thanks guys!!

I'll have to look into it. I just dont have them trained to accept nail clippings, oliver hates the nail clippers so much!

The perches i have now are normal on the top with textured sides. They're the ones that come highly recommended on this site. I'll see if I can swivel them around but I don't wanna break em!

Yessss i love the big doors and the size of cage is nice. I also like knowing that if I want ro upgrade their cages I can buy the same one and they'll match and stuff :)

I have that same cage for my parrotlets, and I love it! It is so easy to clean and they have so much room:)
I was able to find pumice perches that bolt onto the bars at Petsmart up here, hopefully you can find some there:)
Beautiful painting, btw!

I wonder why most birdcages these days have such NARROW doors! When I got my newest cage out of the box (bought online) I looked at the door and said you've got to be kidding !!

My older cages of different brands all have nice wide doors. That whole panel opening up would make it really easy to clean.
