2 Black Headed Caiques - Bunsen & Beaker
Goodbye to a seed free floor.

Goodbye to shirts without holes in them.

Goodbye to a quiet place to live.

Goodbye to not requiring a mirror at the front door so a poop check can be performed on my shirt.

Goodbye to leaving the house for more than a day without calling a bird sitter.

Goodbye to avacodo and onion and chocolate (except for my work stash).

Goodbye to grocery shopping without the thought, "I wonder if the birds will like this."

Goodbye to a life without electrical socket covers.

Goodbye to alcohol.... scratch that. I just won't share.

THE BIRDS ARE READY!!! Bunsen & Beaker come home as soon as I get off work. As you can imagine, I'm getting a text every 5 minutes from my wife, "Are you off yet???" We are so excited. I'm curious how this adjustment period will work. I've been told it takes birds about 3 days to start to get used to a new home. Since we've been going to see them once a day for at least the last month, the transition should be a little smoother.... maybe? About the only thing I'm sure of with birds is, expect the unexpected.

I can't believe it's been 15 weeks since they were hatched. The pet shop kept the boys an extra week to make sure they kept on weight. Our first vet visit is scheduled on Wednesday to make sure everything is A-OK. We have the cage CRAMMED with toys. The play area has so much stuff hanging off of it, i'm not sure you can see the Manzanita branches anymore. The travel cage arrives in a couple hours via Fedex. We're starting off with the pellet/seed mix they're using at the pet store. Am I forgetting anything? Do they have a 24 bird shop in case i did forget something?!?

Wish us luck!! I'll post pictures and some panicked new parront posts as well.

Pictures!

I'll try and make this quick. My wife tells me it's bedtime, and the fids have already passed out. Because she's making me go to bed, I'll post this:

jowelbg-albums-beaker-bunsen-come-home-picture8918-my-wife-modeling-our-travel-cage-don-t-tell-her-i-put-up-here.jpg

First good sign was, they liked the car. They surfed and regurgitated the whole time. We're planning on taking them with us to quite a few places and this was a concern of mine. It isn't anymore!

jowelbg-albums-beaker-bunsen-come-home-picture8919-their-first-look-apartment.jpg

Second, my wife and I had a bet on which toy would be the most popular. We both lost. No toy could compete with the food bowl. For what felt like a solid hour, they were face down and pigging out. I know this is a good thing. We most likely won't have to deal with the finicky eater problems. I was a little worried they might explode from all the food they ate, though.

Third, I find myself sitting back and looking at these guys with a sense of pride. It's only day one and I step back and think, "These are such well behaved birds! All the problems I've read about Caiques must've completely skipped these guys. Somehow, we got saintly angels that would never do things like be hormonal, chew everything in sight, and try to turn our entire home upside down." I have the knowledge that tells me I'm completely wrong. The logic doesn't sink in, though. THEY'RE SO STINKING CUTE.

So in a day, week, or month when I post in here in a panic because one of these hellions turned the tables on me, everyone reading this can have a quiet chuckle.

Firstly, SUPER CUTE pictures of your new hellions...I mean babies!!!! :D Thanks so much for sharing with all of us.

If one of those 2 turns a table on you, I'd say MOVE OUT as you have some genetically altered Caiques with enormous strength.

You will have SO much fun with those 2, I guarantee it. :)

Aww those giant baby eyes!!! Congratulations <3 Caiques are just the most fantastic birds, even with their troublemaking. I love mine to bits and she is older and I've only had her a few months.
