Help my Caique.

Hi everyone!
So long story short is I have parrot experience (cockatoo/grey). I recently bought a rehomed Caique. She is 9yrs old and a female. She came from a great loving home she was in for her entire life. She has all the typical Caique qualities. Unfortunately she also is very opinionated in choosing her people and has chose that we aren't them. Before anyone jumps down my throat we tried. We payed for a licensed bird behaviorist we consulted with veterinarians we have tried EVERYTHING.
We contacted her previous owner and asked if she could go back, she was happy there. But the reason she rehomed her was because she was moving, she couldn't take the bird with her to the new home.

I feel horrible about this situation, I feel we have failed her. She can't be happy here, she has everything a bird could need to be happy except people she likes. We just make her mad... and she hunts and attacks.

So my question is how do I find her the right person? What makes a person a Caique person? I don't want this happening to her again. I know how stressful rehoming can be and I want to find her a home she will be in forever. I want to do right by her. What should I ask and look for? How can I be certain this person can handle a Caique personality? I'm not selling her, I don't want money. I want a gaurentee this person can love her and make her happy and keep her forever.

I didn't start looking yet, I want to make sure I do this right and she finds the right home.

Please help me.

I have 4 Caiques,learning there ways can be very helpful.Sounds like she's mad.Unfortunately rehomes tend to bond to one person .The rest of their family has to go over the top to win them over.Caiques hands down do not want to do what they don't want to .Join the Caique group on Facebook .I bet someone will want her .They Love love love their Caiques.

I have never lived with a Caique so cannot give personal counsel. Your personal responsibility is admirable, hopefully you can find a wonderful forever home should further efforts be unsuccessful.

Now, how long have you had this little girl? It Does take time for them to settle in,new people,new surroundings and such. Is there ANY possible way you can just give her more time?? It sounds like you are doing the very best for her and you truly seem to love her greatly.

The only dealings I have had with Caiques was at the local pet shop. They had a 4 month old black headed who was simply adorable that wanted nothing but skritches and to rub his/her face in the palm of my hand.

I am sure someone will come around to offer you help.

Caique's require a lot of attention and get upset when they don't get it. My Nigel is almost 3. And he wants my 150% attention and love.
Plus she maybe going through the changes of mating season too.


Maybe give it a little more time.

I have loads of caiques and they bond easily with people. But not immediately.

The wonderful thing about caiques is.....they are suckers for bribery. Keep a pocketful of crushed walnuts. Offer a piece to the bird each time you pass. No sweat, take it or leave it. Soon you will have a VERY interested bird.

But it takes PATIENCE. these birds hate change and warm up slowly to new situations
