Hey guys,

i am not a fan of cockatiels (hardcore conure lover) and my grandma just so happens to have one. this bird only likes my grandma and insists on hissing at me whenever i get within 2 feet of it. i have never wronged this bird it just seems to hate me. has anyone else heard of this or have a bird that does this?

My brother had one and it did the same thing to me!!! Even when I would bring it treats.

Its over-bonded to your grandma. I have a cockatiel that will attack anybody who tries to pet him when he is on my shoulder. I can pet him but nobody else can. If he is off my shoulder then he is a really sweet bird. He is just protection me because he probably thinks of me as a mate. So yours is probably just thinking it is protecting your grandma.

does it still mean the cockatiels over-bonded if it hisses at me at anytime, whether my grandma is there or not or if shes on her cage or the couch? and BirdMa i kno what you mean i can be so nice to this bird, bring her treats, buy her a new toy and give it to her, bring her food and water...i still get the evil hiss.

It sounds like he just doesn't like you because he thinks he is guarding something in the house and he won't let you near his guarded area. I would see if he is still mean if/after you can move him. That may change his behavior because the area is new.

I have one that hisses all the time. It doesn't matter if he is in the cage, on his playstand, on one of us. He has never offered to bite or nip in anyway. He is just a hisser!!:green1:

Well, he has definitely over-bonded to your Grandmother. Birds can be extremely over-protective of their owner if they are bonded to only one person. If you visit him more often, and remain calm when you're in the room, he might get better with you eventually.
