Well I must say I am staggered at the amount of human type affection 1 young bird can show.
I am right this minute working on the cramp in my shoulder from not moving for over an hour and a a half all coz this bird had pushed his head and shoulders inside my shirt and spread his wings over my chest and shoulders and gone to sleep nestled into me. He talks in his sleep, but I don't understand what he is saying.
This bird also seems to hate the idea of being caged, even though I don't put him outside till 10pm and get him out between 6 and 7 am.
I am worried by the amount of confidence he shows in moving about. He seems to feel that the floor is as good as any other mode, and wanders around in front of the cat and dog as if they not there.
He seeks out human company at all times and now flies to you as soon as he see's you extend your arm, And if he feels like it he just lands on your head. He is a sucker for jewelry and he reminded me that 43 year old men with earings look like wankers. He has deftly removed my earing enough times for me to surrender to the idea of my ear closing over. He Loves Debbie's necklace enough to make me think he has a thing for bling.
He is still fully flighted and I love it. I keep putting off getting him clipped with excuses to Debbie, but I am running out.

No pix coz Skippah bit though the usb cable on my card reader.

The one thing that you really want to be careful of in this situation Red is giving the Professor TOO much attention and not letting him become an independent bird. This is the type of situation that leads to screamers when they get older. The Professor may hate being caged, but I think you need to teach him NOW that there is a time, and a place, for caging!

Glad to hear that the Professor is settling in well ... I have a bunch of USB cables here, but I think it's cheaper for you to buy one in Oz than for me to ship them to you!

The cable is attached to the card reader, So no joy there.

I see your point in regards to caging and will take note.

EDIT:
Skippah just started talking,..I cant believe it. I was making a coffee and whisting to The Professor, and I started thinking I could hear a note after I stopped whistling. I did it again and I heard a noise, so I did it again and watched the Professor closely, and nothing. I looked over and Skippah was bobbing up and down every time I whistled, and then making a sort of whistle or word every time I stopped. He has sat motionless since the Baby Galah arrived, and has not accepted much affection lately. He also seems more tense or "firm" when you pat him. He doesn't fluff up anymore. He feels sleek and strong, and not fluffy and relaxed. He actually is abit scarier than he used to be, as he feels strong and dangerous when I pat him now. Maybe its me.

youshouldn't have the bird outside at night, it cou ld be too cold for him.........Though I don't know the weather in Australia.......b ut please be careful. And I second what Tex said about giving him too much attention. I did that to Chewy and we were separated for 3 days while he was at the vets, and he started plucking. Thank God it stopped once he came back too me. (goes to sho wthat i will never be able to re-home him. But I wouldn't want to anyways.)

This is where Galahs live in the wild.
There are possibly 10'000 wild Galahs within 10 kilometres of here. Today it was 36 degrees celcius. I don't think going out side at night round here will do him any harm. It doesn't snow in South Oztralia, so rest easy. I will cage him for an hour at a time from now on so he gets 2 hours out then an hour in the cage outside on his own talking to people going past.
Does poo training really work?
Coz this bird is a poo machine!

Well I think it really might have been a fluke when I told him to poop and he did, because he doest' do it on command anymore.......*sigh* And he still poops on me. I don't really care bout it much though, just have to change my shirt.....and you can imagine how many shirts I go through in a day.
