I feel like it's over. My conure flew at my head and bit my ear. I'm afraid to be around him at all now. I tried to leave the room when he was acting a little aggressive. He followed me and attacked me. I am feeling hopeless and there's no way to recover from this. When he's on the floor he attacks my feet. But flying at my head and biting is new. It's escalating. I'm afraid in my own house. Has anyone had a bird act this bad and managed to get him under control. Is it hopeless?

@mrs. brisby I hope you don't mind, I've just copied this reply from my post in your other thread, in hopes you see it in one or the other, cos I can feel your desperation! I'm so sorry this has happened!! Even at the worst with my Baci he never flew to attack me as bad as that, lucky for me he was a bit of a reluctant flyer! Before I had so much success with the "laddering" thing the other thing I was going to do was take him to my avian vet for a health check. Sometimes, just sometimes, really heightened aggression like this is a reflection of pain or illness they may be sufferering, we've seen it here on the forums before. At the very least a good avian vet is a WONDERFUL source of advice and info at a time like this, even if illness is not a factor. I would urge you to take him in for a check - I'm not sure where in the world you are or if you already have an avian vet (VERY important in a case like this that it's a bird specialist) but the link below might help you find one ...

I hope perhaps a vet is able to help you!!

Is he confined to just one room? Or do you allow him to be free in any room of the house??

If your bird has a large cage, it’s okay to keep him locked up for a few days ( with plenty of toys, fresh food and water every day, of course). This can give both you and your bird time to calm down. It also gives you some time to think and regroup without being constantly bitten, which helps lower the emotional response that a situation like this inevitably creates. I know it’s very hard to have a bird acting this way when all we’ve done is love them and care for them. But if it is hormones, your bird isn’t in control of himself and he will eventually settle back down once that rush of hormones stops flooding his little brain and body. I really hope you guys can get through this ❤️

he is free to roam the living room, kitchen, and upstairs bedrooms. He used to go upstairs with me but now he just wants to stay in the kitchen all the time

In a situation like this, I'd ask them if I could go on a waitlist for an earlier spot. I hope they might have a cancellation so you can get in earlier! 🙏🙏🙏

I thought of leaving him in the cage for a few days, but i was afraid it would make him angrier. He screams if left in, as well. But I might try it. He has a large cage, so I guess it's ok.
