My sons U2 is a picky eater, she came to us on a seed only diet. She has started to eat some Roudybush pellets, but I'm concerned because she is so skinny. She seems scared of any fresh food we offer. Any ideas to help ?

Try cutting the fresh food into seed sized pieces, a chop mix works really well. I also recommend using a higher quality pellet. When I got Rosie, my galah cockatoo, she was also severely underweight(only weighed 250 grams) with organ failure and calcium deficiency from eating seeds. I was feeding her roudybush, zupreem natural, and Leafaber's all mixed together but she just didn't seem to be gaining weight. When I started feeding her totally organic, and later mixed with Harrison's pellets her weight has been slowly increasing.

Feeding high quality pellets helps their body to sort itself out. Nuts, such as walnuts and pecans, are full of healthy fats but make sure not to over due it. Even a underweight bird can get liver disease(when the liver fills with fatty cells) by a owner trying to make them gain weight by feeding high fat foods even if it is healthy fat.

We are sprouting some seeds for her now, she refuses TOPS pellets and picks out the roudybush mixed in with them. I will get some Harrisons and try that. Im just worried as she is so skinny I can feel her bones. She wasnt taught to step up properly so I cant get her on the scale to weigh her as she is scared of it. I tried a millet sprig today but she was frightened by it also.
