I've had Chloe now since last June and she still hasn't molted. My conures have molted several times and Chloe hasn't had even a single pin feather. She hasn't plucked any feathers that I have noticed since living here. She does/did pluck her chest so it's fuzzy and her "shoulder" of both wings. I think it looks like she trims her chest...I haven't ever seen her doing it though. When she preens herself I watch closely and she's just preening, not pulling or trimming anything.

I feed her pretty bird pellets, where she dunks them in her water and makes nasty soup, veggies, and fruits and occasionally share my lunch or dinner with her, say pasta or a sandwich.

She's been picking up more phrases and in my voice so that is exciting. She is 24 years old now too.

She has several preening toys and foraging toys.

Her favorite toy...she loves playing with the little thing inside the bell. The dingy? Idk what to call it.

Don't mind my makeshift splash guard...

Do you think she will ever get some feathers in?

Your patience, good food choices, and distraction will help her with plucking. Also, regular bathing & showers. Since she seems to not be doing it, I'd say you are on the right track. Birds who pluck/pick take a long time for feathers to grow in. And then a long time to molt them out. So, just be patient and keep doing what you are doing. ;) I have a soft spot in my heart for "naked" birds.

Might be a stupid question but...since there haven't been any changes that i can really see, do you think she is still plucking/trimming then?

If the feather follicles are damaged, she may never grow in normal feathers again.

Hopefully, she'll molt later this year!

Well I did find out more about her past and what led her to plucking. I am not sure how long she has but I would estimate maybe around 10 years. I got to hear from an inside source that she was kept in rotten cages with 2 feet of birdseed/bird poop on the bottom, 2 toys that look as old as her (23 at the time) and always wondering if she was going to be fed/watered. I am angry that I was told she started because of a child stressing her out, but she was completely in the care of a person who just didn't take care of her parrots at all. I don't know how anyone can get to the point of just shutting a door and forgetting they exist when you hand raised them yourself. I feel really special that Chloe even lets me pet her let alone hold her. I also was told that animal authorities were involved and the amazon that had "suddenly died for no reason" ........yea I am guessing it was starvation/dehydration. The good news out of all of this is that she doesn't have anymore parrots to do this to.

Has she seen a vet? I'd recommend adding Harrison's high potency(course or fine) for 6 months, just to give Chloe extra nutriton. Rosie has molted several times but she still has a few feathers that are very ratty and or discolored and 2+ years old. The worst are some under wing coverts that look moth eaten.

In the photos it looks like Chloe is mostly chewing her feathers, that should save her follicles. When she starts molting watch out for blood/pin feathers, when Rosie plucked those annoyed her and she was always chewing and plucking them. Once Rosie's feather was done growing she left it alone.

Yea she's seen a vet, and my mom and I are taking her and my moms amazon Margret in for a checkup / margret's beak / chloes nails on spring break. When we were last in the Dr. said she was smaller than some CAG's he's seen and just told me to give her a lot of toys, especially preening toys to try to enrich her. I'll look into the Harrison's ....I'm not wild about the pretty bird pellets because they smell like rancid fruit loops as she makes soup with them. It would also be fun to train her to use an aviator harness like you have with Rosie. I have let her wings grow out but she hasn't tried flying anywhere.

My Alexandrine, Vino hasn't molted since I got her in August either. She looks fine and the vet said it was probably just stress from her being rehomed.. I'm hoping she molts in the spring
