Enzo - adopted Female CAG circa 2004. A truly amazing young lady!
Hello all, I hope you are keeping well.

Over the last week or so Enzo has been telling me that she wants to go in to one of the kitchen draws, my junk draw (I assume most kitchens have one of these!). The last few days she has become more interested about the draw so I have removed everything that cant be chewed and left just paper, a few old books and photos of my ex wife, she can now happily chew and scratch away to her hearts content.
Since last night she is fanatical about the draw and goes straight to it, she even ignored her breakfast this morning which is very unlike her. As the draw is closed all of the time shes chewed a corner of the door front whilst i left the room for a minute. She even tried to regurjitate for me before her bed time which she hasnt done in a while

I think she is wanting to nest again.

Assuming I should now not leave her for a minute in the kitchen, which she considers her area, and keep the draw closed. Ive started that an hour ago and Enzo hasn't shut up for a moment..... 'dad, come here', 'come on' etc etc

Im hoping a few days of this and she will calm down, but is there any thing else i can do to stop this behaviour.

Again, i blame myself for making the draw more nest like in the first instance i should have known. It was last August when she laid her first clutch of eggs.

Rio (Yellow sided conure) sadly no longer with us
well can you blame here when you provided such a good nest? :D

she'll snap out of it soon enough and you handle her pretty well

I have several junk drawers though not in the kitchen as there's only 1 drawer in my kitchen

So you left photos of your ex-wife in the drawer...that made my day, really it did...no wonder she wanted in the drawer to shred!

Yes, you created a nice little nest for her, which probably got her hormones all riled-up, and now she needs to calm back down...Remove all nesting materials (including your ex-wife), close the drawer, and try to provide distractions for her whenever she starts going crazy, calling for you to open the drawer. She'll snap out of it eventually, but make sure there are no other "nesting" areas in your house she can get at...

And yes, I too have a junk drawer, and there's so much crap in it that there is no way one of my birds could get in there...
