Is it healthy enough to use Nutriberries and millet sprays as a substitute for Zupreem natural pellets?

I gave millet sprays to Pritti for the first time about 1.5 wks ago for 1st time in 20 years we've been together. Been with my family since babyhood, and I was told 20 yrs ago he doesn't like or eat them, so I never gave. Now, he seems to like it plenty. Now, he's not eating his pellets at all (or so little I can't detect). He used to eat about 1/3 to 1/2 intake as pellets per day.

A few days ago I also started Lefaebers Nutriberries. Since Pritti's been sick and on meds for past 1.5 wks, food preferences have changed a lot in fresh foods (won't eat some of his daily favorites - apples, bananas, cucumbers). And his poop has been really watery (a-vet checked), so millet and Nutriberries are good for that. But now, he won't eat pellets and eats those two items instead, plus some fresh/house foods. I think he would eat a lot more of the Nutriberries if I gave them, but I'm wondering how healthy that would be. He gets 3 a day now, gets millet, cooked sweet potato, cottage cheese, garbanzos, little bit whole grain bread with his meds on it mixed with a dot of honey, whole weat cooked pasta. That's about all he'll take as far as variety goes - not interested in other foods.

He rests alot and wants to be near. I want to give him whatever makes him happy, but don't want to overlook his health needs.

What do you think about the Nutriberries and millet?

You might want to try sprouted seeds... but really, if a bird is sick, as long as they are eating, it doesn't necessarily matter what they eat as long as they do eat.

I agree with Monica, if he's on meds and is sick he's fine as long as he's eating. I would start changing is diet after he is off on meds

Yes, have to agree here. The first day Bella and Zora were sick they were really weak and only ate a bit of crushed NutriBerries, not much else, except water. I called the A vet, worried, and he said as long as they are eating, let them eat. So I did. The next day they were much better and ate some pellets and strawberries. However, for a span of 10 days, twice a day, they would only step up to me if I had peanut butter. They knew when it med time! So they got lots of peanut butter, and it seemed to wash the taste of the meds out. I changed their PB and many NutriBerry diet the day after meds were done. So, if hes eating, let him eat, change his diet later.

I agree with everyone. Because Pritti is taking meds and going through this illness, the most important thing is that he eats and keeps his weight up. If he is eating fresh veggies and fruits, even better. Under normal circumstances, I believe nutriberries and millet are considered treat items as they are fattening. But these aren't normal circumstances...

That's a cute picture! Is he sleeping there? Hope he is feeling better by the day!

i was just reading in a bird care guide about how if your bird is sick you should constantly offer them whatever they will eat. it also said to offer pedialite, gatorade, or orange juice for energy when sick.. but theres cornsyrup in nutriberries so that should work too.
i tried nutrimeals but my conures wouldnt touch them. then my newest conure came home with a bag of nutriberries.. now all three will endlessly eat them. i've tried pelletberries, egg protein berries, popcorn round berries, conure berries, they still prefer the original nutriberry. its an expensive habit lol

Wow. I didn't realize that the nutri-berries had corn syrup. That's a pretty big no-no in my house. I am truly surprised that Lafaber's would put these in the regular nutri-berries. I didn't have my glasses when I picked them up, so was just able to read the front, and had heard of the good words people say about them here.

Package says it's just as nutritious as pellets, so I had been thinking of using it as a substitute for pellets for a while since he won't eat the pellets right now. But with corn syrup, I might rethink that.

When visiting my mom this summer, he was loving her morning oatmeal "pancake cobbler". Maybe I'll make that: Oatmeal, mixed with homemade apple sauce/raisins or baked apple slices/raisins. Add something to sweeten if needed, cinnamon and cook in skilled like an omelet, or pour in to baking tray and pop in oven. crispy and crunchy around the edges and top. soft and moist in the center. Pritti was eatin it up like crazy. Maybe they can be shaped in to round balls, and include some millet when rolling them. Sounds yummy for me if Pritti doesn't like it.

What you could do is buy a bag of different types of nutriberries and put them all in a bowl . Then get a bag of millet and pick of the berries and Mix it with nutriberries and some avi cakes . It would be a birdies dream salad ! It also has lots of energy to help give the body energy to fight off the illness . It would convince the sickest birds to eat. Also doesn't nutri berries and avicakes have pellets ?

If i have a sick parrot on meds, i immediately put them on hand rearing food. A sick bird will usually eat formula from a spoon & because it's liquid it's easier to swallow. You can also put any liquid meds in it as well.
