In preparation for the arrival of GCC Flip, do I remove the bells from the tons of toys I've purchased? I've seen some mentions of this online.

Welcome to the forum, Flip.
I remove the bells from any toy that my bird will be using unsupervised i.e. in his cage. He does have a bell attached to his playgym but he is never unsupervised when out of the cage so IF he got himself into trouble with the bell, someone is 5 seconds away to help.
One does get bird safe bells in some pet shops - keep a look out. The main problem is the 'jingle bell' type (the round bells with a ball inside and a narrow slit in the bell). Birds can get claws and beaks caught in these.

I use bird safe bells all the time.

I prefer bells with very big chunky clappers, something I know they can't swallow by accident.
