So I was out shopping for a more permanent cage for Duke and when I spoke with a local parrot expert he told me that the ideal size should be around 18x18x30. And that my current cage which is roughly 24x24x30 is way too big. So my question is what is the size of your cage for your conure?

He's an idiot. Conures are active birds, they need space.

According to this article the minimum spacing is 24x24x24, which means your current cage is about the right size...

These are nice:

I had my conures in a playtop cage that was marketed for african grays and amazons. (The CAG and the zons are in 30 by 40 macaw cages). The macaws are in double macaw cages...

"In" is a term I use loosely... especially with Maggie. "Sitting on top of" is closer to reality.

Your cage is not too big. It's always best to provide your birds with the largest cage that you can; they will appreciate all of the space that you can give them. My Sun Conure is in a cage that is 36x30x30, and he uses every inch of it.

We went bigger for Braxy, about 36 x 30 x30 and when we asked at the store, the women thought this was the minimum size for our conure. Ask 20 different people get 20 different answers!

Do not listen to him... hes dumb. I have a GCC in a 30 x 30 x 43 inch cage (with the stand it is much bigger) from petco and he usus every single inch of space available to him including the playtop. Conures are very active and require very large cages. Just for reference, this is my cage http://www.petco.com/product/114150/Petco-Designer-Mink-Brown-Standing-Parrot-Cage.aspx (yes thats an african grey pictured in there, but it works for spoiled small birds too) and i love it! It was a great deal for the size and very well built, sturdy and bird friendly as well as easy for me to access to clean and rearrange toys.

This seems like a really good rule of thumb! Buy a cage for the next size up as long as bar spacing permits. Good idea...

Alright, I ordered a prevue cage. Ann333 I looked into that cage and heard that people had issues with sharp edges and what not.

Glad you found a new cage for your lucky fid!

I didn't have any sharp edges or flaws with my cage and the reviews I read were all positive except for shipping tends to ding the cage. Either way, glad your lucky bird has a big new home. I'm sure we'd all like to see pics when it's all set up! :)
