Ruby - Sun Conure - 8 years
Hi guys! I'm new to this forum, and came here to ask for advice and share some things about my baby *conure* Ruby. This morning, I put the cage on the back porch, and my neighbours threw a ball over and it hit Ruby's cage! I ran out and she had taken off. I ran frantically for about and hour, when finally she flew done with some nectar on her beak. Luckily I had been training her for flight recall (so she's safer while wearing her harness). I don't think she would have come back with it. Now, after this experience is over, I love her 10x as much.

My question is, her cage broke and we don't have enough money currently for a new one. Pet insurance doesn't cover cage breakages sadly. If I keep her in a small travel cage in my room for a week or two will it be okay? She's currently in her old broken cage inside the house. The travel cage is about 20cm-30cm-30cm. Thanks! :orange:

I am SO very sorry this happened to you! What a terribly frightening (and maddening) experience! Is there any way to approach your neighbors and let them know what they have done? Perhaps they'd be willing to fully or partially cover the cost for a new cage? Just an idea! :)

I'd say Ruby 'should' be all right in the very small travel cage until you get a new cage for her, as long as she's allowed PLENTY time outside of it. I certainly wouldn't keep her in there all day and night, if you know what I mean.

GOOD LUCK!! So glad you got her back!!
