So my nanday just laid an egg! No mate so I know it is unfertilized. I have been reading around online, but I'd just like advice on what to do.
I've read to not take the egg away for a few weeks. And I read about using a cuttlebone to supplement calcium but she's afraid of them, what other supplements do you guys recommend?
Any other tips? Thanks in advance! :green2:

My moms parrakeet laid eggs like a chicken. She could have saved them and made an omlet. Laying eggs can take a lot out of a bird you have to try the cuddle bone or mineral block. What about broccoli? That has calcium. Try to offer foods high in calcium like eggs and even egg shells in the food can help.

I hope this does not become a problem for you. My mom even tried to stop her bird from laying by shortening the amount of day light. It did not really work this bird loved to lay eggs.

Not sure the best thing to do about leaving the egg vs taking out the egg. Try both see what works. I would try leaving it in first. Not to long it will go bad yuk.

Good luck . Now you know you have a female.

You can let her keep her eggs (and lay on them for a short time) to help her stop laying so much. That's what we do for our doves because they lay so much it's hard on their bodies. I would recommend removing any nesting materials (snuggle/happy huts, nest bowls, etc). Also, not sure what your bird's personality is, but it's recommended not to pet or touch them on the back area because that can stimulate hormonal behavior.
