So I got a 8 week old sun conure. He doesn't bite.....yet. he's very loving. But I feel that he's afraid of hands. When he's in the cage and you try to hold him or try to get him to perch he would latch himself to the Cage bars. Till you grab him he'll let go if he on the floor and you try to grab him he would run away but if he tucked away and cuddling with you he won't care he'll let you pet him and he seems that he enjoys it but he makes this little chirping noises like its not loud but you can still hear it he would do it rapidly3 times and the more you scratch his tummy and head he would do it but softer and softer to a point it's like a whisper. If you have any idea why he does that and how I can get him to perch on my finger and to stop running from my hands please let me know also I have a video of the noise but i can't upload it here so if you are an expert leave me your email I'll send it to you

I would try to refrain from grabbing him, its not going to help his apprehension of hands. Try letting him come out by himself, to the opening of his cage and use a treat to get him to step up on your hand. I always use all four fingers , ie the hand , to get Salty to step up, I think it makes then feel that its a more sturdy perch then just a finger.

How long have you had him? How much time does he get out of the cage?

Just continue to leave the cage door open, and let him come out. He can hang out on top of his cage, or you can get him a fun play stand to enjoy and hang out on. He should have a bunch of toys to keep him occupied and happy. As for treats, you could try sunflower seeds (most smaller birds like conures love these!) or a nut of some sort. What are you feeding him as a diet? He can also enjoy a variety of fruits and vegetables (cut up into bite-size pieces so he can grab them better). Check out my thread here on my recent batches of bird CHOP!

It's important you don't rush him. You can actually find a ton of helpful videos on youtube about how to get your parrot to step up onto your finger. But first you want to get him comfortable with his surroundings, and then begin training. Offer him a treat whenever you walk by the cage.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Welcome to the forums, congratulations for adopting a Sun Conure! Beautiful birds with adorable personalities.

You and your Sun are early in the acclimation phase and his responses appear perfectly normal. He is old enough to take it all in yet too young to have much point of reference. Let him be a guide for advancement but take it slow. Check out this link for some helpful tips: http://www.parrotforums.com/general-parrot-information/49144-tips-bonding-building-trust.html

Parrots enjoy a variety of fruits including apple, grapes, pear, banana, pomegranate seeds, various melons, and orange. Offer citrus sparingly, and vegetables should be the more prominent wet food.

what to give him as a treat

Most small birds like millet. If he is young, he may not be familiar with some of the other suggestions yet. For it to be effective, you will probably need to remove it from the regular diet.

Fuego(sc) is only 8 weeks old and I feel that he's terrified of my hands like he refused to be on it and no matter what treat I try to give him he won't touch it
