safety idea for toy chains

I was tinkering with some of my new toys. I bought the rings of fortune toy and it has a chain on it. I don't like toys with chains very much but I think I have thought of a way to make them safer. I bought small pvc pipe. I don't remember the size but it just fit over the chain. I cut it to cover the length of the chain but still allows for some movement. I think this will help prevent choking hazards and caught toes.
What do you think of this idea?

after my cockatiel Num Num broke his beak in a chain link, I was determined to cover all the toys with chains.

At first I used vet wrap, it worked for a while, but my conures loved to chew it, so now I've used old wooden toy blocks and covered the chains...now it gives them something to chew.

I like your pvc pipe idea, better safe than sorry

I am happy to have found a good way to protect my baby. I like the wood block idea too! I think I might go to extremes and use wood blocks over the pvc. That way she can chew and still have another safety layer!

Those r both great ideas. I often avoid or take apart certain toys because of the chain. It will be fun to get some wood blocks and spheres for them.

I just sit around attempting to parrot proof these days. I am a daddy parront of a beautiful catalina macaw. I am determined to provide her with the safest environment.
Crimson-sorry your baby hurt her beak. So many of these stories have been inspiring me to make changes. I hope I will be able to provide her with as much safety and fun she can take!

After the horrible chain injury that Beth's birdy suffered, I don't use any chains in my fids' cages. I like the pvc idea - that is a great alternative!

I can't tell you no matter what I have done amazing what can happen! I put a new toy in the other day. Never would you think it would possible to cause any harm. Well it didn't because I was right there to witness it but my Rose Breasted put most of her body in the triangle toy. She wasn't exactly stuck but agitated. There are two plastic triangles and things hanging on them. Just adorable. She was standing on a perch struggling trying to figure out how to get out of it. It wasn't tight and I guess it would have been fine but I took it out for now. REALLY! I don't think anything is completely safe!

I agree with you beakface, that no toy is 100% safe. No matter what they can get into trouble. We just have to do our best to make things as safe as possible.
I am using the pvc pipe over manila rope that I hang toys with, so she cant chew and make them fall. That will save me a ton of time!
Now that I have started creating toys, stands, etc I am getting endless ideas! Kali must be my muse
