I'm aware that I'm a slightly neurotic bird mom. I won't use anything unless I'm 100% sure it's safe for my little monsters.

That being said, I also really enjoy making toys for them, but I want to branch out a little and more some more complex toys for when my grey comes home, and of course so my little ones have even more variety.

I have some ideas, but I'm not entirely sure what items would be considered unsafe or just a bad idea for a chewy bird.

Things like tissue paper and paper mache... Are those safe for chewing?
I used to go to craft stores often before I had birds, and they have a ton of adorable and interesting paper mache items, such as eggs and houses and letters, which I thought would make good toy parts if they're safe to use. And I think most of us have made paper mache at least once at home (I still have a pinata I made in 7th grade). Would homemade be safe?

Craft stores also have little wooden bits, usually pine. Is there a way to make these safe? How do you sanitize wood and natural branches in your home before giving them to your birds?
How would you go about sanitizing things like river rocks and pebbles?

I did buy a steam cleaner, if that can be used effectively for anything!

Are there any adhesives that could be used safely around birds once dried? I had read somewhere that dried wood glue is safe, but of course I have no idea how true that really is.

What about paints? Or should I try "painting" with food dye haha
Can I make safe paint? I... Have never thought of looking into that until right this moment.

Googling these sorts of things isn't terribly helpful and has resulted in me having a very questionable-looking search history.

Thanks Wendy!

I'm a bit under the weather so my head is cloudy and it's proving difficult to read a bunch right now, but I'll get to them throughout the day.

I see a lot of people mention buying parts from the dollar store, so logic would dictate that some craft store finds would be safe as well, I think. (again, super brain fog)
