Very very carefully. Many a young eclectus have been killed by the family dog.

My dogs grew up with my Parrots & as much as i trust them i would never leave any bird alone with them.

Monte..Scarlet macaw, Seminole...yellow napped amazon, Starburst... sun conure...Rain, cinnamon green cheek.
I haven't seen it said much on here, so I'll start spreading it...

Dog and cat saliva alone can cause a bird to die..they don't have to even bite them.. there's a bacteria in their saliva that is very bad for birds...

To me that says not to associate birds with cats or dogs...

Dogs saliva is fine, it actually has antibacterial properties that can heal.
However it's when the bird is actually bitten by the dog or cat that causes the trouble & is a trip to the ER Vet.

Pedro has given you some great advice. On no occasion should you ever leave your Dog alone with your Bird!

That's not what my vet told me.. but I would rather err on the side of caution just the same :)
But I'll definitely look into it again.. I don't want t be giving out false info.

94lt1 it's the actual puncture wound that creates the biggest problem as germs quickly find their way into the wound & causes infection.

But your right to err on caution. I don't even let my dogs lick me let alone my parrots I think it's gross. However i do know parrot owners that think nothing of this practice.
