Hey guys,

So i like to browse ekkies on online classifieds. Mostly just to look at all the cute baby faces, as i hadn't been thinking about getting another yet. I came across this one 5yro girl a few weeks ago that really stood out, mainly because she's plucked her chest feathers and some of her back/wings, and the cage she was pictured with was bare of any toys and only had 2 dowel perches and it was clear from the mess on the bottom of the cage she's being fed mostly seed. I pretty much burst into tears cos i hate seeing situations like this, as i'm sure you all do too.
Anyway as sad as it made me i didnt think there was much i could do about it but hope that someone loving would buy her. Everytime i went to browse new ads i'd end up back at her ad and i'd think about her often.

The past few months i've been thinking of whether or not i want to get a female in the future. i think she's made my mind up. i emailed them to find out as much as i could about her. The breeder they got her from never explained proper diet, they do give her some nuts and a few fruits but seed seems to be her main diet. They stopped giving her toys because she ruined them (kinda the point!). i dont think i ever got an answer to how long she's been plucking fro, but they are moving soon and cant have pets. from the emails ive exchanged ive concluded she has been a loved pet (just clueless on proper care/diet) and i've told them i would love to welcome her to my home where she would be much loved, and receive a proper diet and huge cage and many toys to keep her occupied and hopefully stop her from plucking.

My only problem is im going overseas to america for all of july. My parents will be taking care of Yoshi and Pippa while i'm away and i know they'll be well looked after and they both love my parents so im not worried about them. However its also my parents first time looking after yoshi and will be a little bit of learning involved for them but they are excited and will do a fine job of it. If i get this girl though, im not sure if it would be a good idea or not them looking after her. I dont doubt their ability but she wont be very familiar with them (she'll just be getting to know me well by then) and i have no idea how she would react to them. And im not sure its fair on her to bring her home to me for a few months them move her again to my parents then a month later back with me. i dont want to stress her out. At the same time if i wait till after i return to bring her home, thats another 3 months of living with no toys, bad food and continued plucking. I mean i explained basic diet etc to her owner but i have no idea if they will actually start changing anything since they are trying to sell her.
And if i wait then she might have sold her. They said they would hold her for me till then as long as no one else made a better offer.

So i have these 2 options of getting her now or waiting 3 months and possibly missing out and not knowing if where she ends up will be better. But each option has its pros and cons and im not really sure what the right thing to do is. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. She's also about a 12 hour drive away but definately willing to go that far.
i'm sorry i seem to have rambled on a bit and probably forgot a few other details but i'll add any if i remember :)

If I were you I would get her now. You'll be amazed at what a difference 3 months with the right care can make. Since your parents know how to care for eclectus from taking care of your other one I would think they will do fine with the new girl as well.

I think you're right. The more i think about i think it's better in the long run. She may or may not get a bit upset from being relocated a couple of times but at the same time would at least be receiving proper care, and i would get my family to visit often between now and when i go away so she's at least used to them being around.

I will have a chat with my parents tonight as i think they should also have a say since they will have to make sure they have the extra room and time for her which i don't think will be an issue but i want to be sure they don't feel like they are taking on too much, even just for 4 weeks. If we all agree it's the best thing then i will let the owner know and could be going for a road trip next Monday :D

I've just been told she was sold this morning. I really hope she has gone to a good home. It's probably for the best, as i discussed with my mum about getting her early and she just really wasn't comfortable or confident with looking after her while i'm away so i chose to wait. Hopefully she's now receiving all the love and care she deserves, and i shall just have to wait for the right girl to come along :)

Sorry you missed out on her but I agree I hope she was taken by someone who will now give her the love and care she needs. I am a firm believer in what's meant to be, I am certain at some point after you return from your trip the right girl will come along!
