This site has been so amazing for me! I am a firm believer in giving your pets the best care possible and this site has helped me (and my little Lucy) tremendously. Of course, I did a lot of research before I got her, but there was a lot of questions that came up after and it has been so nice to have somewhere to turn to! Thanks!

Quick question- she seems to actually prefer veggies over fruits, but I've read a lot of places to give Eclectus a lot of fruits. Should I try harder to incorporate those into her chop or is it fine to stick with veggies mostly? Also, out of curiosity, do you all pretty much stick with chop or ever offer bigger chunks of fruits/veggies?

You do want to experiment with different size cuts I find that some things they prefer larger but because eclectus don't really eat while holding it with their feet like many parrots do small to medium size works best unless you hang it on a skewer.

Mine go in spurts as far as eating fruits and veggies so I always offer both. Nothing is better than strawberry kisses!:p

What an awesome problem to have! Hahaha! You do want to keep feeding the biggest variety of veggies and fruits possible, but the concentration of fruits to veggies should favor the vegetables, anyway.

Veggies tend to be closer in nutritional content and value to the fruits ekkies are used to eating in their native environments than our accustomed fruits. So a veggie dense diet is a good thing.

Also, don't forget legumes, oats, grains and sprouts.

Yeah, I usually mix the grains, legumes, etc. in with her chop of veggies and fruits...she's quite the eater now! But just like I had a hard time converting her from her seed diet (the previous owner was giving her), I'm now having a harder time interesting her in chucks of larger fruits and veggies...she tends to like it all chopped super small from the food processor. Regardless, the progress she's made with her eating has been phenomenal! She is a bottomless pit, are all parrots or eclectus like that?
