Molting ?

Max seems to have gotten a little thin on the top of his head is this just a molt?
Lily a month or so back i uncovered her one morning and i noticed her head looking thin on top also to the point of her crown being broken, a couple of days later hardly any crown left at all. a week later she has all new head gear and her crown came back brighter and a little wider. i was not worried because
she seemed healthy and normal. is this the same thing Max is going through because he is acting normal and very active as always ?

Yep, sounds like a molt. Parkers a little thin up to right now as well. Typically you shouldn’t notice much of a personality change during a molt. So that he is normal and active is a good sign

Wrangler is thin on top down to the back of his neck and has no fur along his jawline...I know it's molt because it's the one place he cant reach with his beak! Maybe it's just me but it seems a bit later this year. His jaw molt was june/july? last year.

Max is a year and a half old, been home a little better then a year.
Lily is same their tag numbers are 199 & 200 so age is only a few days apart
i would think, even though they don't get tagged till they are headed out the door
to local buyers, this aviary has 90%or better sold before they are hatched.

this is the first molt i have had with them Lily was a month or so
earlier then Max.

something else that has been bothering me it has been a year now since
we cut their wings as i wanted them to be home a bit to get the lay of the land
before flight well Lily is a great flier and gets around great, however Max still has not
been able to get any uplift at all. he had never gotten to the point of being able to get any uplift prior to the clipping either. is this something i should worry greatly about.
4 times a week when im giving him his spray showers he gets a good work out on the wing flapping so i don't fear him being under developed in that area. something else do you other owners notice your birds talking in their sleep as Max is chatting at night also.lol kinda cool as nothing comes out as it should he just strings different words together,a lot of laughing like me,and the dog barking all done at a low volume.

Im a bit in the same boat with you. From what Ive read (no personal experience here) on the very touchy debate of wing clipping...clipping a young bird can have lifelong consequences in their flight abilities. Not, as yyou noted, from lack of physical capabilities, but from the emotional consequences---lack of confidence-- and under developed skill set. Could be your boy is just not as secure as your girl, or of course the obvious answer that boys are always slow ...jk

Wrangler has molted out his clip to the point where he only has one clipped feather left and he's started wingercizing...plus he has a half a tail now so he can actually land rather than drop like a rock. Physically he *should* be able to fly. He's shown some inclination to use his wings to hop/fly short distances of about two feet, but always lateral, not up. From the best of my knowledge he hasnt flown in at least 6-7 years, and he's about 8 years old. Wondering if he will decide to fly or just hop and climb.
