Lincoln has been quite the grump lately. I don't know if it's because of Apollo or just him being grumpy over me not being around much this week (been SUPER busy but next week will be better) is it common for a previously only bird to be a tad grumpy when a new bird comes into the house? I've been trying to give Lincoln lots of attention and have been spoiling him rotten with treats... is it not enough?

Ta-dah was great with all the new birdies till Penny. Took a bunch of Xtra love to convince her all was ok..and she bit me a lot! But we good now... Lincoln looks like he lost some muscle mass in his face, how's his weight? I think he and Appolo will be fine , just takes some time to get used to it, but I think he will like the company!

Sunny a female B&G macaw;
Japie (m) & Appie (f), both are congo african grey;
All are rescues- had to leave their previous homes for 'reasons', are still in contact with them :)
Birds will react to each other no matter what, and yes...getting another one to live in "your house/territory" is quite unsettling at first..

Appie is still a bit stressed and has been overgrooming to the point of almost plucking ever since Sunny came here.
(Yup, it still freaks me out every single time she spends too much time grooming.)
I have noticed over the years it is Appies way of dealing with tension, but it is somewhat worriesome.
(Sunny moved in over 10 months ago, Appie has been here al least a year before her.)

Keep hoping they will settle down asap- but you cannot hurry nature...

(esp greys who love to study every single aspect of a situation before deciding to be okay/not okay with it and a somewhat insane-in-the-membrane semi-shellshocked macaw who needs a lot of time to decide on her personality)

Japie is quite happy-go-lucky about it, so the first bird here is really helping the other 2 to settle in by not stressing and being chill about being handled etc.. (When he is not divebombing the macaw or Appie "out of the blue". Still no clue what motivates him at those moments...)

But it is an uneasy situation sometimes (uncertainty -> agression), I keep doing flock-things with them: they shower together whenever they want to shower, they get special treats together, if they tolerate each other they have cuddlytime together (groupgrooming) as wel as individual of course.

So I hope it will eventually dawn on them that being a flock is actually fun!

And they are mellowing out a bit, but I think it will take them a long, long time to get really comfy with each other.

Yep, it's probably due to Apollo...And it doesn't matter how many treats you give him or how much attention you pay to him, the new bird is still there, lol...I've gone through this a couple of times after bringing home another bird, some birds just don't take it well, others don't even seem to care...But they all get over it pretty quickly, it just takes time and for him to realize that Apollo isn't going anywhere. Once he realizes that his new "tude" isn't going to make Apollo disappear, he'll just resign himself to it and be fine...Just make sure you're giving him the same amount of attention and that his own, personal routine/schedule doesn't change much and he'll be fine...
