Ok, all my friends pretty much took their furry pets and dyed them pink for cancer awareness. 2 dogs, 3 cats, 1 rabbit, and 2 rats. We're having a booth at our cancer awareness fair. We're going to use our animals to spread the cause. They want me to dye my little keet pink using food coloring? I understand she'll be pink for a while, but is it safe? I don't want to unless I get 5 ok's from you guys.

As much as I would like to see what that looked like, I personally wouldn't do that. I have no idea if that is safe or not, but I would be leaning towards no. All those other animals are much bigger and have hair that can easily be washed. (Its not all that easy to suds up your budgie and spin dry it). And she would probably be pink until the next molt. If you really want to do something, how bout a teaching her to wear a pink cape or something?

i figured. i mean it's an all natural vegetable dye so i don't have to worry about any dangers to her skin or feathers. but i just don't want to take any risks. i'm going to admit, i'd like to see that too. that would be really awesome. the thing is, she's albino, so she already has some pink. i like the pink cape idea. i'll try that. i'm a little nervous that if she flies and the cape gets snagged and she chokes. so i'll be super careful and wary.

I'm with Aussie Ben. The following video shows you how to make a chicken diaper. I know that's not what you're looking for, but maybe it could help you create a pattern for some kind of pink clothing for your little keet.

it's 100% legit, i think it was in India... I forget if it was for easter, or if it ws a way to market the chicks...

I completely forgot about dyed Easter chicks. I've seen it for years. Once the chicks lose their down and get real feathers, they're normal colored...and they don't seem any worse for the wear.

But they're chickens...not parrots or cockatiels.

I can't think of any health issues with it but I wouldn't do it either. I wonder if your teil would get frustrated trying to clean it off?

A pink calcium perch turns albinos pink. That would be safer. Also betroot.

I think anyone who takes away an animal's natural color is not doing the critter any favors. Leave it to a human to degrade the appearance of an animal ( Bird, dog, cat or any other one).

I found the best soultion. I have white cotton rope and I'll dye it pink. Put her in her travel cage and tie ribbons all round her cage. That way 1:It's safer for her skin and 2:She has rope to chew on
