I keep turning down rehoming offers

I have had several rehoming offers to take in another bird from a female Eclectus, another Senegal, Blue & Gold Macaw and actually a couple of Macaws, Quaker, Amazon. I feel really bad about turning them down, but it's just not the right time for me and I have been so tempted. But I have seen such a drastic change in Tiki since Mac left it's like she is a different bird. My neighbors have even commented on how quiet she has been even when sitting outside in her travel cage while I work in the yard. She seems so content it's unreal. I keep thinking that sooner or later, I'm going to wake up and the real Tiki is going to re-appear, the one that can make a preacher cuss a blue streak when she wanted to. But so far, it's like we don't have a bird as far as noise or being needy. She is just a pure joy. I would hate to spoil that and bring in another bird right now.

Mike, your Sennie is 11 months old? Mine is 10 months old. She is really starting to talk, how about yours?

"Bird friends'" there? [I don't here] to maybe help direct these guys to a good home .

Maybe that's why mine is quiet. She's only got the linnies to listen to and she gets all the attention. She's 7 months and says about 6 phrases like, hi Sammie and good boy (even though she's a girl)

No, actually I got her when she was 11 months old. She is now 3 years and starting to feel the hormone effects. She is not a big talker. "She does How are you doing" and Pretty Tiki in the cutest voice. It's not nearly as clear as an Eclectus, but to me her voice it much cuter.

I keep referring them to Craigslist with strict instructions on how to weed out the undesirables Ops, I sound like someone from a Country Club. But to avoid bird flippers. I even offer to help with this, we have been able to find a couple of the really good homes. I'll also add here that I will not help in any way if they are asking for money for their bird(s). It's either free or no deal. This eliminates one or two right out of the gate.

If the birds being offered to you are for free, why don't you direct them here? This will at least give them a better chance of going to "experienced" bird owners who may be willing to add to their flock or to those who are willing to learn how to better care for their current or future fids.

I want a baby dyh in the spring, but until then I am open to an older one in need of a new home.

Don't feel bad. I've turned down more than I've taken in.

It has to be the right fit for both you and your existing flock...

I've offered them to post them here. But I will not post them for the owners, they must register and do that themselves. But so far they prefer to try and do it locally. Take my bird groomer for instance, she is always looking for homes for birds that customers want to rehome, but she only wants to rehome them to customers of her's so that she can keep an eye on them.

Mike at least you have people coming to you- and even if all you can give them is advice, that's better than nothing IMO A lot of people don't understand that there are soooo many dangers out there- bird flippers, people who abuse birds, unknowledgable bird owners, etc.

If I had to rehome any of my birds, it would be under great scrutiny and preferrably to someone I know....which now that I think of it, I don't really have anyone in my area that are "bird people"

I've recently been deemed "the bird lady" by a friend on facebook lol but I don't have people knocking on my door asking to take their bird(s)...yet. haha

Believe me you will. I turned a lady away the other day while at my local pet store picking up some millet and bird food and a lady approached me and asked if I had birds and I told yes I do. I was wearing a T-shirt with a BIG picture of a male and female Eclectus on it. She began telling me that a friend of her X-husband gave her daughter a cage with two Cockatiels in it and after the new wore off, her daughter doesn't want to have anything to do with the birds. She asked if I would consider taking them and I told her sorry and suggested Craigslist or our local party line AM radio show. She then left the store. One of the sales clerks overheard the conversation and told me that the lady had been in the store several times asking patrons if they would take the birds. When she asked the store manager if he would take them, he refused and she said that she would just have to set them free and they could fend for themselves. I felt bad about this and told the manager to call if she comes back in and still has the birds. I will try and find them a good home

So so sad.

set them free to fend for themselves!?!?!?!?! yikes!!! I sure hope she doesn't do that!!

maybe she should give them back to the friend who gave them to her in the first place!?

It seems they are no longer on speaking terms since it was a friend of her ex-husband.
