ANother Buddy

I know theres a thousand of these posts but I was wondering some personal feedback.
I just got a sun whos wonderful and I love!

I'm thinking of getting another friend for him to chat with while im gone,

My sun is pretty much never in his cage when he is home and I'm sure he'd love to have a friend to play with and talk to!

Basically

Under 1k & talks. I'm not getting a bird "because it can talk" so don't think that, it's just an interest!

Conures normally get along with other Conures. But don't take the chance of leaving them out together when your not watching them . Birds can injure and kill each other.

People on this forum say it all the time; I'll say it, too.
Never get a bird for your bird. Get a bird for YOU.
Be prepared financially and emotionally to support a second bird.
Double the space, food, time, noise, and mess.
If the birds hate each other, which can happen, you'll have to dedicate different times to them so they can both get attention.
It's not as simple as getting another bird and putting him in the cage you have. The first bird will likely be territorial. Even if they eventually share cages, it's best to do that right after a full cage cleansing and re-arranging so the first bird has nothing to be territorial over. Or, an entirely new cage, if the first one is too small for two.
Your best bet will be housing them in separate cages, in the same room(after a vet trip and quarantine, so the new bird doesn't infect your current bird with anything they may have.) and then next to each other. They can share play spaces and what not if they get along, but it's best not to shove strangers in the same living quarters. Yknow?
Not trying to be critical. Just pointing out some factors that you may not have thought of before.
I had a Sun that got along with my white eared conure just fine. They picked on each other at first, but they eventually would share playing areas and preen each other when out of their individual cages.

I would definitely not have them in the same cage - I was actually thinking different cages in different rooms. Shouldve cleared that up at first.
THe only time they would be together is when they're out, an what you said about them possibly hating eachother is definitely a possibility.
I was just wondering if anyone has a conure and another bird, say of a totally different kind, that get along, maybe a quaker? I was interested in something that has some speech abilities, though it may never happen and I don't really "care", its just something I would want if I got another member to the fam

Talking ability is a strange thing; it's just a matter of some birds have it, some birds don't. Some people will tell you not to whistle to your bird, because if he/she learns to whistle, they'll keep doing that instead of learning words since it's "easier" for the bird.
My white eared conure gets along with her green cheeked cage mate. She talks, he doesn't. He just mumbles and tries to copy her.
My 3 year old eclectus hasn't talked yet, either. He makes sounds though. I haven't had him the whole 3 years, only a couple months, so he may be hiding the talking from me. But who knows.
I've also had cockatiels who talk. I've never had a quaker, so I can't say anything about their temperament or talking ability.
Whether the two get along is entirely up to the birds. They could hate each other, and then warm up to each other. It's hard to say that two species generally get along well, because each bird is an individual and you just never know.
Also, my conures and my eclectus don't hate each other from what I've seen, but I don't let them close(or even have them out at the same time). With a size difference like that it just takes a split second and someone lost a toe, a leg, or I've lost a bird. So I don't take my chances with them.
With a Sun and a Quaker, Sun's(in my opinion) have the larger beak of the two, so I'd be watchful of him. Conures can throw a pretty mean bite if they want, and a poor quaker wouldn't have much of a fight.

My two conures get along great. But my Cockatoo will eat the little girls. I don't know if all Suns are like mine but she is a sassy pants and a button pusher. She thinks she is much bigger than she is and tends to bully. I got very lucky that she loves my Crimson bellied conure but my Sun can't be trusted when I'm not watching her. She will excercise her bullying ways even with her best friend.

Why not another sun? or maybe a jenday or something? Like other's said, not all birds do talk.

I think a quaker is a great choice. They can be great talkers and are similar in size. They may hate each other as far as attention goes, but still enjoy the company during the day.

As long as you're prepared in case they don't get along. I'd say a good portion of the people on this forum have "incompatible" species, meaning ones that have a size and or temperament difference. You just have to be prepared for it. I have two sennies that are clutch mates and they still hate each other, so there's never a guarantee.
