Okay, this may sound weird, buttttttttttttt... that won't surprise too many of you!

This idea came to me as I was replying to LotusFlower's very touching thread about losing her beloved conure, Fussy.

We were talking about how we showed/expressed our ongoing concern about our birds.

I'll just copy my response. Does anybody else experience this?

'Big ol' Patagonian hugs to you, Lotus.

Here's a confession.
I have a standard nightmare about the Rbird. Two, actually.

First... somehow he gets lost in a huge flock of Patagonians, and I can't tell which one is mine. Sometimes there's a happy ending and he flies to me or talks or sings. Sometimes I wake up in a terrible panic.

Second... somehow I have forgotten about him or lost him and when I find him he is so weak from hunger and thirst that he seems ready to die. I anxiously try to feed him. That's where that one usually wakes me up.

Hey, maybe now that I've told about these bad dreams, they'll go away.

More Patagonian hugs, in any event.'

I've had two dreams about Ralph that I remember. In one, I was shopping in a big department store, with Ralph perched on my shoulder. He got bored looking at parrot toys and flew away. I had to look all over the store for him and finally found him in the furniture department, sitting on the back of a sofa. In the other dream, I was at a backyard picnic at my former neighbors' house-- a place I moved from long before I got Ralph. Once again, Ralph was sitting on my shoulder and flew away. He flew through the open door into the house, and I found him on the kitchen table eating from a plate of potato chips. In the dreams, it was scary when Ralph flew off, but at least I found him safe and sound.

Yes. One involved Hahnzel being trapped, obviously the nightmare, and another made me laugh.

I don't tend to have nightmares, I just have *really* bizarre dreams. But the birds are often in them. The other night I had a dream that me and confetti were flying around (I could fly, cool beans)... And then she turned in to a dragon and ate me. I woke up very confused.

Dreams involving our Parrots are very common. The direction they tend to travel is more a part of our current mind set.

Now for a little fun! Those with 'Strong Willed Parrots' MAY come to believe that their Parrot is in fact controlling their Dreams!!! :D Rb clearly could fit into that group. But those owned by Amazons, could be far more likely to experience such events!!! :D

Laughing and Smiling 'with' those who experience these dreams.

FYI: Your Not going Crazy! People owned by Parrots are already Crazy 'AND' truly enjoying themselves!!!

CNY... yeah I relate to both those dreams. Scary, but with happy endings.

CD... I've read that many people never recall dreams. You might be lucky!

Mr. Wrench, they really are both absurd, huh?

Goaler... yipes. By the way, I love your bird's name!

Sir Ed... you reminded me of another dream... a good one. The Rb and I are flying over the countryside. So far, he never ate me, but now that you put that thought in my head...

Sailboat... true dat. Even if the Rb did drive me crazy, it was a short trip, as the old joke goes. To lose my mind, I'd first have to find it. If I were to lose my marbles, I'd first have to buy some. I could go on...!!!

I have this odd daydream that both my partner and myself are killed in a horrific car accident and the birdies are just stuck in their cages wondering when we will get home but...you can guess where my brain goes from here, the poor things.

We dont have any close friends or relatives that are going to say "hey, those two creeps are dead, what about the birds?"

I guess this is not really a dream or a nightmare just a dark recurring thought.

Beau 20 year old male Green Cheek || Jimmy Bullet 17 year old female white cap pionus parrot
Here's a terrible one I wrote down:

I have a new bird, along with Beau and Jimmy Bullet, but Jimmy is not present. The new bird is sick, off, something about him makes me uneasy. He is Jimmy's size with a lot of white. He has small yellow eyes like a parakeet. He is quiet and sits in my hand. I notice Beau is also there, watching and hanging in the corner of his cage. If this bird is sick, Beau also could be sick.

I hear a strange hiss. It is continuous. I feel warmth on my arm. The new bird is slumped over my left forearm near the elbow. I think it is dead, but I don't know. Its beak is open wide and warm black liquid is splattered over my arm. It is like bile. The hissing is coming from the parrot, but I don't know if it's a noise, or where it comes from. The parrot's pupils are glazed over yellow like cataracts. The black bile comes from its mouth and pores. It is horrific.

+++

I often have dreams that either Jimmy or Beau are flying loose outside near dark, but it's never a traumatic feeling and they always fly back down to me, so I am not sure if that counts as a nightmare or not.

HMM.. Strong Willed Parrot Controls Dreams.. I can believe it! But I have a benevolent dictator.

I had a couple lucid dreams where Beau tagged along, but it was mostly just him getting carried around in my hand. Those were the best dreams, even the ones that were scary, because my watchbird is right there with me.

Primor... I have flashes of such thoughts, too. I would call those daymares. Awful. Maybe we should start wearing dogtags that say "Go call X-rescue and tell them to get my birds"...

Piasa... that bile dream is horrible. I am trying to figure out what a small while parrot with little yellow eyes, full of black bile, represents.

I was giving some thought to my own and others' dreams, and I suppose that a commonality is worry about their health and welfare, and/or losing them...

When I am highly stressed I have nightmares about my birds. Usually they involve variations on a single theme; chaos and dead birds. Adult birds, baby birds, cages piled, birds loose all over, starving, dead, all over the place,e frantically trying to figure out how it all happened, how I (or my pet sitter) let it happen, what to do about it, trying to get them food and water, trying to collect the babies, trying to call the vet but not being able to work my phone.

I used to have these same sorts of dreams about random small
Animals before I had birds.

Well it just so happens that I do have two horrors.

One is a bad dream. I had it only once, but I remember it. It was that my wife is texting me that her bird is sick or missing pr something, and I can't get a signal to respond. I figure she thinks I just don't care.

The second one is a recurrent daymare (thanks for coining the term, sweetheart). I think that my wife is in love with a Patagonian Con. Oh wait that's actual.

I have had only ONE dreammare about Amy..she was really talking back at me,calling me all sorts of nasty names...and I...I...back handed her! :02:
We were in my bedroom, and she was "flying" in a circle, with her head/neck bent at a 90 degree angle,CRYING,and asking me WHY???

I woke up in tears :02: :02: :02: and literally RAN to her house to look in on her. I spent that whole day with her .

Oh, awful!
The only good thing about some nightmares is that waking up is such a wonderful relief!
