Hay all...
just got diamond Home from her owner I must say the living conditions she was in was somewhat harsh. when we got there to collect her despite the owner having told us over the phone that she was 95percent tame when we got there he told us I must catch her from her cage because sh bites like Crazy! suddenly I was faced with a dissension pay for the bird and rescue it from these poor living conditions despite the fact that it is not tame or leave it and search for another.... well you can see what I had Chosen! I am glad to say she is home safe and sound and ready to start a journey to recovery. she is not in that bad shape apart from being slightly skinny. once home I offered her some dried fruit which she took happily from my hand I then offered her some apple she had no problem taking that from my hand either. she will accept food from my hand but only food if I bring my hand near her without food she bites although I must admit she has bit me four times but only the first one when collecting her was painful the rest were somewhat of I nibble. she seems happy for me to sit next to the cage and she is not being quiet and shy she is playing with the toy and eating and MAKING Mess! ! Lol! but could anyone give me a step by step way to train her and her wings are not clipped should I clip them or take her to the vet? no links please :)

Wow! She is so beautiful!!! :07: congrats on getting her!!!

I hate how some owners lies that their bird is 100% hand tame, and while taking them out from the cage the bird bites like crazy :/

It's a good thing that she will take food from your hand! Just keep on offering her food from your hand, and get closer and closer to her. Once she feels comfortable, try to touch her. But make sure to do this slowly! Trust takes time, if you force it, it will most likely to make it worse. Patience is the key!

Just a reminder that sometimes after in a new environment, she can get a bit of bluffing stage. Where they will bite. But just ignore it keep on trying.

Have you clipped a parrot's wing before? If not, I would recommend going to your avian vet. It's actually illegal here in Melbourne to clip a parrot's wing without a avian vet supervising! Because you might cut the blood feathers and hurt Diamond. You can try to clip them yourself after asking what to do from your avian vet.

wings have been clipped I took 8off on each side :) she didn't go through to much stress but she is happy now she looked a bit hot after the ordeal so I gave her a misting. :) she is settling back down now nicely :) I know the whole sit by the cage and talk to her softly thing should be done I have been doing so I just want to know how long I should do this? before trying to hold her and another question I have is when can I start teaching her to talk she is a year and a half now so is that old enough :)

It took months for Scarlet to trust me, even though I was doing everything right. Now she's the best bird in the world, she will let me do anything, she actually is 100% tame.
Patience is the key. And trust me I thought it was never gonna work out, she was always gonna hate me, but now she absolutely adores me! Well really she is obsessed with me but I don't mind lol.
Just keep doing what your doing, it seems to be working so far, you should be fine!
It could take days, weeks, months, just be patient! :)

Congratulations on your new friend! If she was panting after you clipped her wings and that is why you thought she was hot, it is most likely that she was stressed. This is what birds do when stressed -- breathe hard/pant. It can happen at a vet when they are stressed during a procedure.

Glad you accomplished what you wanted on your own. I would have suggested leaving her flighted but too late now. Maybe you'll decide to let her fly next year. I'm sure she would love it.

great news guys oh and thanks for the replies I read them all and they were very helpful. oh and sodakat she was panting but when I put her down she was holding her wings away from her body you know like when they hot. so now for the good news I opened the cage door and sat by the opening talking to her and doing some work on my pc she climbed down onto the door perch to get the treat I left there she then tried to fly across the room but only glided to the floor due to the fact of her wings being clipped and she saw herself in a reflective ornament we have she was so interested so I watched her. I eventually tried to put her back in the cage thinking this was going to be difficult! I tucked my fingers into my jacket sleeve and put my hand near her.SHE WALKED OVER AND CLIMBED ON ME!!! she then tried to climb up my arm to my shoulder but I stopped her half way up fearing she would take a chunk of my ear lol. I kept her on my arm talking to her but it seemed as if she was not uncomfortable or scared but she was looking for a way off my arm and she was looking for my fingers to bite. but I think that is a lot of progresses for two days don't You?

That's really good! But, I would try not to put your hand in your sleeve, it's hard to get them used to your hands after having them covered with sleeves and gloves. Bites can hurt but in the long run those few quick nips will be worth it.
My alexandrine will not let anyone touch her In her cage, only when she's not on her cage she will, maybe that's a part of what's going on here?
Not sure!
Either way great progress! :) keep it up!

Buster turquoisegrey IRN male, Piper buttercup IRN female. 2 Budgies who will soon be relocating to my brothers home.
Piper also doesn't allow touch when in or on her cage, that's her private area for quiet time. Buster still doesn't allow me to touch him. He's been very good about hubby putting him in the cage though, no bites! Yay! And he's becoming a bit more trusting of strangers as well, not flapping away every time someone approaches anymore, and accepting treats from the. Hands of guests now as well. Time is all it takes, and a lot of it, also if it takes too long, remember not to become bad tempered or scold Diamond, that will put you back to square one with her again. Best tip to not be bitten, is to avoid bite situations, Buster is even starting to do the mating dance for me when we chat, but still wants no touchies, so we play by his rules. Works for me and him. Good luck, she is gorgeous!!!
