So I am looking for the cool, crafty, simple solution here, because I know you all probably have dealt with this .... here goes.

Lucy is a 5 year old blue and gold macaw. She's usually loose in the house, mainly contained to her perch or top of her cage, but sometimes wanders (while we're around, of course).

No, it's not a poop question.

Her food and water bowls are inside her cage. She prefers to eat outside her cage. She also likes to impersonate a monkey and throw her food around. It gets everywhere.

Does anyone have that "duh" craft answer to some solution for the bottom area of a large bird cage that can be easily cleaned up/replaced nightly that catches all their "tossings"?

Something that's easy to manage for the large cages?

We have a clear mat under our large cage like the kind you would put under an office chair. I got it at Sam's club for $20. You can vacuum it, sweep it or steam clean it if need be.

I 2nd that suggestion. I use the same thing and it works fairly well. You can also go to some place like Lowe's or Home Depot or a carpet store and get that 27" wide clear vinyl that's sold by the foot to extend the clear office mat coverage area or to fill in gaps between the mat and your walls, etc.

Great idea, something I would have suggested.

Yup! Definitely. I think everyone here agrees! :D If you are worried about it getting on the curtains as well, sometimes shower curtains over your fabric ones can do the trick. :)

And a further thought... if the cage is against the wall or perhaps in the corner of a room you might consider doing what I've done with some of my cage sites. I've hung long sheets of plexiglass from the top of the walls just behind the cages (and in some cases, beside them). That protects the walls from splatter quite nicely.

We've had the floor protector before, just have to get another one. It's almost like we have to do the whole room though because she channels baseball players when she throws stuff, ha ha. Curtains? Yeah, she climbs those too.

Thanks for the help

Yeah, I've used tarps as well... the only problem I've encountered with them is that my Hy is obsessed with the rivets along their edges and always runs down to rip them out. But besides that they're inexpensive and have worked well for me.

Yea, I should have mentioned that we cut the grommets out of the tarps prior to using the tarps.
