I'm curious what you guys use to keep the floor under your macaw cage clean. I've been looking at office chair mats but don't want to pay over $100 for it. -kd like something that's a hard plastic and easy to clean. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Home depot has the chair mat material that comes on rolls you can get a foot of it or 10ft of it. Super cheap!!!!! I dont have a macaw, but it will work under any cage. You will just have to use a few "strips" of it, but its clear so a strip of packing tape should hold it together just fine. I LOVE it cause it can be scrubbed down and hosed off!

Ps I think its like 3ft wide x however long you want. And like a dollar something a foot. The stuff I have is the clear vinal and has the sharp pokies on the back to keep it in place on the carpet. Not quite as thick as thick as the $100 actual chair mats, but doesnt need to be in this case! Good luck!

My three macaw boys have their own room. At first I had the floor covered with peel and stick flooring tiles. Unfortunately my B&G Kayko found out that the tiles will come off of the floor if you pull on them. You can never make a macaw "forget" anything, so every time he was out of his cage he would search for some tile he could rip up. I had a generous supply of spare tiles which worked for a while, but I finally gave up and retiled the floor with real 18" ceramic tiles. Real tile is the easiest I have found to clean and the grout lines are not recessed all that much. A Goodie sponge mop (Lowes) has a Scotchbrite pad on the top side for bearing down on dried poop and pectan. A Shop Vac is a must for cleanup

the seed catcher gets most of the mess, but occasionally he will stand in the corner and "shoot" one out that even a mat wouldn't catch!

Riio: that's what I looked at while at Menards the other day and I'm thinking that'll be what I use. I can't re-floor the room cause as of an hour ago, I just put carpet in.

They can't have their own room either cause I live in a cabin that only have 3 rooms in it. A bedroom, a livingroom, and a sunroom which is now my room where the macaws will be staying.

Thanks for all the advice though :)

We use brown "Kraft Paper" in Mac's play area and under the cage area.

Cheap by the roll and just roll it up and throw it away at cleaning time.

All my cages AND playtrees are on ceramic tiles, and I'm SO happy about that because cleaning up the spilled mess (and there is lots of it, despite seed catchers) is a breeze. :)

Any laminate or rugged plastic would proably work well if you want to preserve carpet. It won't soak up poop and is fairly easy to keep clean. Just gon't get anything with ridges, because it will be a pain to remove stuff in between, especially little stuff that gets wedged.

I got linoleum remnants that I get for free from a local flooring store. Ask the supplier that just sold you the new carpet if they have some remnants you can have. Chances are since you just purchased carpet from them they will give you some. I just take them outside when I clean the cage and pressure wash them, let them dry and bring them right back in. They clean up really well and easily.

I use old fashion news paper. My neighbors give it to me so zero cost for me. Best of luck Joe

LOL, my neighbors give me their old papers for inside their cages, too. They all know I've got parrots, and it's really nice that they remember to save newspaper for me. :)

American Bulldog Mix,
You can get the office mats like a 4 x 5 or somewhere around that size for 5 bucks at family dollar. We usethat around our Macau playstand and just hose it off. We use the vinyl on the base of our stand because its easy to wind of and doesn't scratch
