Hi all,

I have a Blue/gold macaw and an umbrella cockatoo (in separate rooms) but it seems the blue/gold macaw (Cuddles) is starting to bet affected by the dander from our cockatoo again. When this happens we give her Ornacycline and after a couple of days she is fine. We also give it to her when she has a loose bowel and again after a couple of days she is fine. I just found out that there is a back order of the product now and wonder what other product can be used which might be better.

Thanks,

Glenn

I am bot familiar with the medicine, but just took my Hahns Macaw into the Avian vet and he gave Bacryl prob spelling it wrong. She had an upper respiratory infection too. It worked great. After three days she was completely clear.

Have you consulted your vet about this? If not, you should! Have you been running a air purifier?

I can only agree about consulting with an avian vet.... that and getting a true HEPA filter air purifier without an ionizer. Plus, daily bathes for the cockatoo as well as lightly misting the cage papers before cleaning them.

Ornacyclin is a *very* diluted OTC drug that should not be given to birds. It can end up doing more harm than good.
