I don’t know but they sure have a canny way of reacting to our human moods. Empathetic birds? Very much so I think.

Last Friday, after a very rough day where everything that could go wrong did, I got home and walked to her cage as usual. She didn’t greet me with open wings as usual (must have sensed something). She just very slowly extended her body towards me, her head turned slightly sideways and said in a low toned voice: “How’s it going?” I just burst out laughing!

Just one of the many reasons me love our macs so much!

Without a doubt in my mind - YES, they do. (My Amazons as well)

Now don't get me wrong, sometimes they like to cheer me up with a foursome "Jiggly Puff" song, and trust me, that's not 'music to my ears' when all four of them are at it. :30: But hey, they're trying, right?

The big macs make the cutest and sweetest sound when I cuddle them and they know I'm 'off', especially when they know I feel sad. It's impossible not to smile when they make those cooing noises. :)

I'm saying yes to this one. My blue and gold certainly picks up on my moods. When I am at a low, she's as calm and still as can be..When I am feeling good and great..so is she. Even during our training..I have to stay calm and focus on keeping my heart rate low. Otherwise she gets really excited

Definitely, Bella (my blue and gold) picks up on my mood, pretty awesome after having a tough day to get snuggles or her being especially playful and gentle. She can always cheer me up, love that goofy girl :)

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Not only macaws but other species as well. As prey animals, parrots are very keen observers of their environment. They are certainly aware of some of the more demonstrative emotions and moods of their captive humans! :D
