You asked for pictures . . .

First are the 2 budgies, when they were just a couple months old (last autumn). The green/yellow is a girl, known around here as "The Evil Dragon Queen" and the blue with the yellow face is male & called "Pretty Boy Blue." They are probably somewhere in their birdie terrible twos now, but both Dragon & Blue still think I'm the 'fun playstand.' Blue talks a bit. He says, "Beaker!" (which is the Pionus's name) and occasionally laughs an evil laugh (thanks to my husband, for teaching the laugh to Beaker & to Beaker, for passing it along to Blue). These 2 are currently flighted & living in the 'winter bird room' which is a very small room (that is easier to heat in the winter than heating the whole house). They come out of their cage, fly around a bit & go back into their cage, often with no problem (because they are abundantly aware they can come out, again). I have never tried clicker training before, but am thinking about it for the birds. For these two, I'd like them to have a recall (because when they move out of the bird room & into the main part of the house, I want to be able to convince them to return to the bird room!)

Next are the Linnies. They ARE fun little birds! These are a bonded pair of ex-breeders that I got last year. I am at least their 3rd owner, probably 4th, and they are just about 4 years old. They are not hand-tame, but enjoy interacting quite a bit. For the longest time, they would "chirp in cadence" when I'd say, "Pretty bird Pete!" (that's the green male), he'd reply with the cadence, but no real words. Turq, the female, would reply, too. Then Blue (whose cage sits between the Linnies & Beaker) apparently taught Pete to say, "Beaker!" (Linnies have a little robot-like voice). Pete is pretty proud of himself for being able to get a big reaction from me. I'm hoping to do some clicker training with these two, also, to help them be less stressed when I have to handle them. At this point because they are not hand-tame, I have to capture them & it isn't a pleasant experience for them.

Last but definitely not least is Beaker. His prior owner told me that he named himself Beaker. He has a small repertoire that he pulls out when he wants attention (as opposed to when I want him to say something"). Mostly, he says, "Beaker" and "Heh-heh-heh-heh-heh" and he wolf-whistles & makes that whistle like hailing a cab in NYC. He says a few other things, too, and my husband's current project is teaching him turkey calls.

We (and when I say "we" I mean "my husband") are thinking of adding one more bird, too). But that's the feathered flock, so far.
