Red Lored Amazon
Hi everyone! I just adopted a Red Lored Amazon from Alaska Bird Club and I'm just getting back into the swing of having a big bird after decades of being birdless.

Things have changed in the bird world and I have questions! I'll post in the appropriate places to find out the best food, etc. I'll be very happy to find out more about current care and feeding (it's been 25 years since I had a parrot) and find other Amazon owners to talk to.

As for my "guy" (I'll have 'him' sexed as soon as I can afford another vet visit--it was the dogs' turn this month) he is four years old, just a youngster. Poor fella has had four owners in four years. Well, the buck buck buck buckKAW (he does a great chicken) stops here! I'll be putting him in my will as I won't outlive him. But there's a long time before that is necessary and we are having a great time already.

He and my elkhound are making friends through the bars of the cage. Ole, the elkhound, thinks Buddy is absolutely wunnerful because he throws FOOD out on the floor! An elkhound's dream!

My other dog is more predatory but has already moved from trying to sneak the bird, to asking me, with funny faces and body ballet, if I'll give her the bird. No, Sofie, you can't have the bird!

Buddy was originally named "Baby" and he doesn't seem to mind the name change. He arrived at my place on June 30, so I haven't had him that long.
