Hi!
I'm about to adopt a one year old pineapple green cheek Conure, which I'm super excited about!
The bird was hand raised, but hasn't been handled in some time, so from what I've been told, it's a little nervous.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me in regards to getting my bird, making it comfortable and taming it.
I've kept lorikeets before, so I know the basics, but from what I've heard, this species has a very different personality, so I just wanted to hear from other Conure owners so that I could get a bit of a heads up on what to expect.
Any help would be fantastic! :)
Thanks!
:D

Welcome, very exciting! Remember, you are not taming her, you are gaining her trust and becoming a partner! Approach it the same way you approach a person that does not know you and really cannot speak English.

Welcome welcome welcome! Always great to see people doing extra research to be prepared for their new addition. Never be afraid to ask questions, the people here love other birds almost as much as they love their own, and will go out of their way to answer just about anything you can think of!

Welcome to the forum. It's good that you're doing your research. GCCs are great birds. Several here have GCCs. It is a pretty helpful forum.

The key is to take things slowly. If he/she is wary at first, spend some time just sitting by the cage. Talk to your bird in a calm, soothing voice. After a couple days of this, you can try to offer a treat by hand. Never try to force the interaction. Let him/her warm up to you. After this, you can offer a treat in a manner that encourages the bird to step up onto your finger. Every bird will be different. Time frames can be significantly shorter or longer, depending on how this bird was socialized.

As mentioned, it's all about building trust.
