Sun Conure
My sun conure is 11 months old and I just brought him home Friday it wasn't until I did some more research that I found out that I was suppose to let him be the first few days. I have probably been trying to interact with him too much, but now that I know what to do the next few days I will keep my distance to let him become comfortable. I do sense he is somewhat agitated, I took him into the bathroom with me earlier to let him see himself in the mirror and wanted to check for mites or lice on him and he go aggressive with me, so I took him back to his cage, and after the fact I went back to his cage a little while after and put my hand near him to pet him and spoke softly he growled and hissed at me, and then retreated to the corner so I backed off and have given him the space he needs. I have heard sun conures are affectionate, but I don't think Pete is ready for that. I have been covering his cage at night to provide comfort but don't know if I should be. Do you think he will stay distant with me. I am for sure going to make sure my home is peaceful and quiet the next few days, to try not to continue to overwhelm him. I am worried I have given him too much stimulation these first few days in my home. What is your opinion please? :orange::confused::confused:

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
A warm welcome to you and Pete! While it is best to give them plenty of space and time to observe their new environment, there is likely no permanent rift. The honeymoon period can take two or more weeks, and you should see gradual improvement. At 11 months, it is doubtful he has seen many homes.

Covering the cage at night is good technique, and if he doesn't flutter about or agitate, good to continue. A few great techniques to earn Pete's trust and bond closely: http://www.parrotforums.com/general-parrot-information/49144-tips-bonding-building-trust.html

Let us know how he does the next few days!
