Hey guys,
I’m an artist based in Cape Town.
I got my first budgie when it was about 7, 20 years later I honored a request and brought a little lovebird home from a ****ty pet shop he was living in. We’ve shared a living space for less than 24 hours and he’s cracked me open like a nut.
He was the 1 of 4 in the cage, the other 3 seemed to have excluded him from the group yet.
After a traumatic ride home and a first night of stumbling over some serious pillars of my own authoritarian prejudice, the little guy let me know exactly where I stood and this afternoon we danced to the edge of tears(I speak for myself) after getting home from the coffee shop.
I’ve decided to name him Thich, after the guru Thich Nhat Han, who wrote a book sitting on my shelf titled ‘How to Love’.
I have (un)fortunately stumbled onto one of the most incredible awakenings I could ask for.
I look forward to a lifetime of learning, companionship and adventure with this little fellow.
