Begin Rant

Feel free to ignore this post. I'm under the delusion that things will seem better if they are written down.

First, we buy a used car for our kid. I know nothing about cars, so we do all the things suggested online for buying one. Our mechanic says it needs about $800 of maintenance stuff, so we buy it. It's a 2003 with low miles.

To make a long story short after 2 mechanics the "fixes" and maintenance end up costing us $2200. Then today my son is practicing parallel parking and he tells me when he cuts the wheel all the way to the right and the car is in reverse the engine stalls. I don't believe him so I try it for myself and sure enough!

Then we take him for his driver's license road test on Friday. They tell us to show up at 10, which we do. At 1050 they tell us to get in the line of cars for the driving test. I sit in the car for AN HOUR with my kid and then they tell me to get out. Our son is then told to turn off the engine. (Mind you it's the hottest part of the day by now and it's August in Houston) and he sits there for another hour.

Then they fail him because when he was coming out of the parking lot to turn right he crossed the dotted white line instead of making a tight right turn and staying completely in the right hand lane.

I wasn't thrilled about that, but at least they could make a case for that, but the 2 hour wait in the car (3.5) total and then being told he has to make another appointment to retake it and there's not another appointment for a month really ticked me off.

Then there's the issue of our dog. Charlie is an 11 year old Boston. He started having seizures last week, so we took him to the vet and they did a bunch of tests and told us that they couldn't find anything, so they put him on an anti seizure medicine and told us to bring him back for more blood work in a couple weeks. He hasn't had another seizure, but he hasn't been acting right.

Then there's today, my partner is out of town and I'm taking care of her finches. I do the morning feeding and everything looks fine. I go to do the evening feeding and one of the parrot finches (she has 5) is dead. I try to get a hold of her, but can't, so I make the executive decision to bury it in the back yard. She finally gets back with me and tells me to unbury it, she wants to check it out, so here we are.....

End Rant!!!

Karen, what a terrible week y'all have had (longer since we are counting from when you got the car!). Are you still going to try the walk in on Monday for his test?
I am hoping that as a walk in you will have better luck than with an appt.
And I am so sorry that Charlie is still not himself:( I was hoping that the meds would put a stop to the seizures and that he would be back to normal. I hope they can find out what is going on with him.

And please tell Karen how sorry I am for the loss of her finch:( Was this one of the ones she has had for awhile or one of the later additions?

Thinking of you, my friend, and hoping things start looking up from here.

I think we will wait to try the walk in on Wednesday. I read they are less busy in the middle of the week.

I'll be honest, I pay zero attention to Karen's finches. They are in her office and I rarely go in there. She had a pair and 3 chicks, not sure which one died.

Aww, sending you hugs - from another Karen, even!

Sorry your Boston had the seizures. You can ask them if you can cut back the dosage of the meds, it is such a tricky thing finding the balance between eliminating seizures without eliminating personality!

hah. Why do I think I see this thread growing into a monster sticky?
Oh yes, I know what you mean. Sometimes it just feels better to write it down. You could just go outside and let out a real good yell.
Why do things like this seem to happen in waves?
Like today, when I just couldn't get out the door. Couldn't find the keys, had to call my phone (in the closet). The car had a low tire, which turned out to be a hassle. I took it to the tire place here in town, he removed the tire, floated it in soapy water, told me there were no leaks, put it back on the car, put some air in it. I get 10 miles away and the indicator in the car comes back on 'low tire pressure' so I go to a gas station and they charge $1 for air. Unless you fill your car, then you can go in and ask for air (that's S.California, sheeesh!) I put air in the tire. I was so near time to replace all four tires that that's what I ended up doing for the mere cost of $650. It's a good thing I was paying attention because I had to ask for all new valve stems (they charge separate for those).
I head to the market and do my shoppping. They were out of several of the items I wanted (sizes). I went to another market to finish. I went to lunch at a Korean BBQ that I love. The bill is more than usual because they had a price increase in the past month, which was posted in the window that I failed to notice.
When I got home, I put things away, checked my babies, and went outside where I had a 5 gallon bucket filled with bleach and water and some eucalyptus branches soaking for the birds cages. I lifted the pail and the plastic broke around the metal handle and the pail hit the ground, broke nearly in half, and spilled the bleach water all over my slacks, socks, shoes  unfortunately this happened in the breezeway between the house and the garage so I had to hose the whole thing down, but not until I hosed myself down. No big deal, I just did a load of laundry, took a shower, and sat down to write it all down while my toes are burning up from the bleach.
Now the eucalyptus branches are in the oven baking at 250 degrees and I better get off this computer contraption before I start a fire.
Thanks for reading I feel much better.
I'm hoping this is the end of the jinx jag I'm on today :D

Pretty sure this week sucks in general. See my Friday the 13th post for more details. Basically my week has gone like this Tuesday I completely run out of gas on my way home from work so I had to sit there for an hour to have some one bring some to me. Wednesday I got into my accident Thursday I got fired from my new job because my back got hurt in the accident and I wasn't jumping up out of my chair every time I saw a guest. Then today I was getting ready to leave my grandmas house when somebody decided to start a physical fight with me by slamming me into the door because when she asked me why I was leaving I told her the truth that I wasn't going to be around that person. So I ended up hurting my back even more. Of course this happens to be the same person who wasn't there but tried to tell me how my accident happened and then yesterday told my niece she doesn't live with my brother and didn't belong there so I felt he deserved everything he got. And I would do it again nobody talks to MY niece like that and gets away with it

Ugh Karen, I am so sorry about all of that! The DMV sounded totally infuriating. Then having to dig up the poor little finch :11:. So did she check it out enough to satisfy her curiosity? Now are you going to re-bury it again?

Mrs Kay, OMG LOLOL I about choked on my dinner laughing when you said the part about checking the oven!!

I hear all of you... I've had some pretty "bad luck" for going on 2 years now .... But this week I agree has not been the smoothest!

She wants to know which one it is and I guess it's easier to look at the dead one instead of the other 4 live ones? They all look about the same to me.

Ah i see.

That is always the worst when you are baby sitting or house sitting for someones animal...and it dies!...i couldn't even imagine. Worst possible timing for that to happen, i hope she wasn't mad at you or anything.

She wasn't mad, but she'll probably think twice before going out of town again :)
