Vasa parrots

so just wondering, has anyone here ever met/owned/been around a Vasa parrot?

I had someone suggest that I should take a look at owning one if possible and looking at them they are cute but my god are they weird!

The female changes feather colour without a moult and when hormonal changes he skin colour and goes bald on her head. Then the males have a hemipenis!

They seem like such unique and strange birds and supposedly are super quiet and friendly. I may have to see if I can go meet one at some point, considering how rare they are I'm not going to hold out hope in the "birdless" UK

I have never met a vasa parrot, but someone on another forum I was on a long time ago had 2 I believe. They apparently are very gentle and intelligent parrots. I'm also pretty sure they are a very ancient species of parrots.

I knew someone in high school who had a male, I was so jealous of him. Never got to meet it though, and he moved to Germany for college so I don't know what ever happened to it.

Neat birds, from what he told me they behave very similarly to greys. It's amazing how the females loose their head feathers during nesting season, they look like silly little vultures!

yeah everything I've read compares them to greys. I believe they're not as smart and they definitely do sound like gentle friendly birds, the males more so than the females. From what I can gather the females can get very territorial and loud during breeding season.

for such an ancient parrot I find it weird how little is known about them
