Wine corks as toys?

My new hobby/entertainment is wine and I've been keeping the corks. I've been thinking of drilling/punching holes in them and stringing them up as toys.

Any reason why I shouldn't use them? Obviously they are human safe.

Real cork or synthetic?
I'd be worried about TCA (Trichloroanisole). It's supposedly harmless to people, but I haven't found any information regarding its effect on birds

Perfectly safe. My parents have given them to their birds forever (even the bottom part;)) and they just rip them up as foot toys. Only takes the zons maybe 5 minutes, the cockatoo 2. I bet that Zoe would make one last *maybe* a whole minute:D
