My new apartment has a terrible old musty smell. I'm worried because my new baby bird is coming in a few days and I haven't been able to get rid of it! I bought an air purifier, I have boxes of baking soda and bowls of white vinegar everywhere, I've vacuumed and painted and cleaned, and the smell is still very strong. I think that the smell is coming from the ventilation system, I'm wondering if it's an air filter or something. Will the musty smell be harmful for my bird? Are there any safe sollutions?

I'm also concerned about a bird family living in my bathroom/oven fan vents. I had to save a baby bird from the oven vent the other day. I'm worried about possibly airborne avian diseases and things the wild birds might bring in through my vents. Has anybody else had trouble ensuring that their air is safe?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Look around carefully for signs of mold. Mold can be in the heating/cooling ducts. I had that once and professionals had to deal with it. If you can smell it your bird may be affected. Bleach will kill mold.

How about a dehumidifier? I dont know the situation, but the humidity here is terrible. Walmart also has a can designed to absorb moisture in closets. (I dont know whats in it) I have heard that it works.
